We need factual input to obtain factual conclusions and factual output.

I point you to this advice, given by Trump to the Fed via Twitter last December, as a way of illustrating how he regards objective data:

"Feel the market, don’t just go by meaningless numbers."

The abolition of civil rights is one of the greatest things people of faith have brought to America.

Doesn’t he know he’s not supposed to say this stuff out loud?

"The answer, rationally, should be that people who meet certain reasonable requirements: e.g., a potential to contribute/desirable skills, a source of income or support to sustain them in their initial few months, no serious criminal record, no extremist beliefs, and no major diseases, will be assessed and allowed to enter the US in a controlled manner."

You do realize that one of the main reasons Donald Trump is President is because the U.S. immigration system on our southern border hasn't been working at all like you describe...right?  It's been broken for 30 years and NONE of the supposedly reasonable people did, were doing, or planned to do a darn thing to fix it.

I don't begrudge anyone their disdain for Trump but this refusal to recognize that his election is not some bizarre random accident but is a perfectly understandable response to the failure of the existing political establishment continues to puzzle me.

Trump was elected as a protest to out political situation. Mostly the two parties trying to control our votes and opinions. However, electing Trump has done nothing but show how an outsider can mess things up, not how an outsider can make things work.

As an Independent who would love to see a real outsider become President, I fear Trump has destroyed the chance of such a thing happening any time soon.

And I do think our immigration system could be easily fixed, or least improved. But then Trump would have no platform....

This is so untrue. Statements like this have become my
pet peeve on the internet. Spoken as gospel truth with
no wiggle room ... and far away from reality. It would
have to perfectly fit your particular view on how he
should be doing things and what he has accomplished.
Completely ignoring those who agree that he has
accomplished much and is very successful.

What do those four people believe that he has accomplished, aside from making racism more prevalent?

I don't think it is more prevalent. The unemployment
rates are better than ever. We are perfectly fine with
legal immigration and Trump just backed off one of his
goals and wants to increase legal immigration instead of
reduce it.

This is a year old, but I think it is a perfect
illustration (and he is quite funny) that the number of
minorities that love Trump were and are still growing.

I'll believe it when I see it. He may personally be all for legal immigration, but as long as he passes off policy responsibility to those who very much aren't, it's meaningless.

And you do realize, don't you Michael, that Trump is NOT offering the rational solution I mentioned, not even slightly. His approach has been noted as being very different, and racially motivated.

In Australia, we've had a system like the one I mention for quite some time. Over 70% of migrants entering Australia are granted entry through the skilled immigration program, whereby they must have a skill which is on the Skills Shortage List, they're assessed for criminal backgrounds, medical histories, etc. They can't claim to be refugees fleeing life-threatening persecution, then return to their home countries for a visit a year later. etc.

Yet even with such a system in place here, we have Trump-like cretins who echo his sentiments in wanting a whites only immigration policy.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Do you really think Trump and people like him are offering any rational solutions - to anything? Do his many evangelical, white supremacist, intellectual-hating, Confederacy-loving followers seem the rational type to you?

Be puzzled no more. I readily acknowledge that Trump's election was no accident, and it is indeed perfectly understandable. As the far right moved out beyond the gross stupidity that was the Tea Party and headed ever further into the Twilight Zone, a large group of poorly educated and/or highly religious and/or blatantly ignorant people began demanding that the Government actually implement their impractical, simplistic solutions to complex problems.

This grass-roots uprising of imbeciles was nurtured by, and in turn gave their undying, illogical support to, a greedy moral vacuum of a demagogue who was only too happy to peddle more of the childishly simplistic solutions they want to hear: Ban Muslims! Build that wall! Lock her up! Eliminate all debt in 8 years! Defeat Isis! Stop the unfair Chinese! Tax cuts for the rich! Trickle down theory! Climate change is a hoax!

"Grass-roots uprising of imbeciles" should be on a billboard.

While his election is not an accident, it also cannot be said that him taking the presidency was completely without outside influence. His election was completely aided as well by the Democratic party that put forth a candidate many would never vote for. I'm in total agreement that this President was not elected based on some bizarre accident, but I don't think it was an understandable response. I've had numerous conversations with people that said Obama ran the country into the ground, but could not back that statement up with a shred of evidence. Electing 45 seems an awful lot like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
