To both Brian’s.

I’m not saying he will win. I’m saying that that would be his playbook - he’s going to encourage his supporters to back him in that scenario, and he has set up the arguments he is going to use from day one.

You really think he won’t ask them to support him?

I personally think he is going to wake up one night, issue some crazy dictat that would plunge America in to war and one of his aides is going to shoot him. But if that does not happen and he loses, he’s going to ask his supporters to back him. And they will.

It may be short, and he will lose, but I think it will happen

I believe it far more likely that we would see a second American Revolutionary War before we see a second Civil War. Mind you, that means I think that one chance is seven in a million, and one is three in a million.

First, I think a lot of "enraged" citizens take their idea of a war from what's on TV... and most of all, that they'll just get up afterwards, brush themselves off, and go to a victory celebration. General Robert E. Lee said, "It is good that war is so terrible; otherwise, men would grow fond of it." FAR too many armchair soldiers have no idea what war is, and think that they could Randolph Scott/John Wayne/Ben Affleck their way through it without a mark. Fifteen minutes of training would probably shut down 90% of interest of actual desire in a war.

Second... where's the military and local law forces while this goes on? Again, a lot of second amendment fans think that THEIR militia can get out and do something... which would be quickly dissuaded by one M-16. Three privates, one sergeant - that ought to shut down a LOT of revolting citizens.

No, I feel that once 45 started any such activity, he'd get shut down fast, and - if he's LUCKY - just 25th Amendmented out of the way. Sanctions DO occur, and I don't doubt that every agency has someone keeping an eye on 45's activities... just in case.

I hate him, I hate his government, I hate that the Repubs are in charge of Congress and the White House and still fucked up running the country. But I can't be easily convinced that 45's gonna start a war just to save his ass. I think he'd consider it... but I don't think he'd be allowed to do it.

I agree, Eric. For one thing, the idea that Trump can think that deeply about any subject has been disproven every time he disengages his finger from his nostril and begins tapping away on his phone.
For another, if the opposite were true, he would have done it by now, right? This isn't Luthor in 'The Death of Superman', curing cancer just to fool everybody, and then killing the Big Guy a year or so later, like he planned all along. Trump can't MAKE a plan.

Trump has far too often been guilty of hyperbole. Unfortunately, this 'OMG, Civil War' stuff is exactly that. Rise above.

"I will not be lectured about what our military needs by a five-deferment draft-dodger. And I have a message for cadet bone spurs: If you cared about our military, you'd stop baiting Kim Jong-Un into a war that could put 85,000 American troops .. in danger."

- Senator (and vet) Tammy Duckworth during first day of Gov't Shutdown.

Cadet Bone Spurs®

This is the best thing I have read in a long time.

I love Tammy Duckworth.  I hope she runs for POTUS.

Can you imagine Trump’s WORTHLESS ass debating her on damn near anything?

David,

I agree with you.

But with all that has happened since 2016, I wouldn't bet a cheap cup of coffee that the majority of registered voters may probably see her as the stereotypical "angry female".

Shit just doesn't seem to stick to Dolt 45.

Nowadays, it is like he's a ..(and.I don't believe I am typing this):

Teflon Don.

Now Rump wants to ban abortion AND contraceptives.

And apparently he's opposed to babies being born in the ninth month...

WTF?!

I take it he wants human beings to be more like elephants, then. Don't they carry babies for 2 years?

He doesn't know the difference between being 'born' or 'aborted' in the ninth month, apparently. Hey, it's the same syllable, and bigly words make Trump's head hurt...

I absolutely love Tammy Duckworth and I'd love to see her make a run for President, BUT I don't think she can.  Her father was an American, but I don't know if she was born on US soil or not.  She was born in Bangkok.

Time for that rule to be changed.

I would say that if you have lived for 25 consecutive years in the US, you should be able to run for the position.
