The cover was a no brainer for me.  Love the Demon, and love Merlin.

I love how JB always manages to make the Demon look like he's on fire or at least exhibiting great amounts of heat even in a black and white drawing with no fire lines visible.

The first of a bunch of pieces I was fortunate enough to get my hands on at the NYCC 2010 show this year..... it was quite a haul. Agnes Garbowska has a fun style that immediately brought me back to the sense I had of comics as a young child. I've loved her stuff since first seeing an Avngers/Dr. Doom commission she did for another fan. The cover to Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #1 seemed the perfect choice to ask her to work her magic on... the results made me smile from ear to ear:

Yep Joe.... I didn't actually request it until Wednesday night and she made no promises, but said she'd try and get it finished by Sunday. She started it Friday, worked on many other pieces and signatures as she went along, setting it aside for periods of time.... but showed up with it in hand on Sunday morning. It is going up on my office wall and will assuredly promote enthusiasm for comic reading within the young 'uns.

I find myself constantly amazed at the process of an artist to create a beautiful image on a blank piece of paper. Never have I been more floored than when I see Ariel Olivetti's work. Whether it is one of his paintings or his pencils, I'm in awe of his skill. He was at NYCC 2010 for a short time on Friday and I found this along with only 2 other pieces for sale at his table. I am not a huge Namor fan, but this piece is incredible down to the last line. The intensity of the expression on Namor's face is almost beyond belief:
