Derek, Nope. when I send in my request (usually to JB or Fred Hembeck). I let them run with it. I don't "Right" the story for them, and have not been disappointed yet.

I may provide the initial concept and occassionally a small bit of direction, but then I get out of the way. A few times, the artist will send a few thumbnails to choose from, but other than that, the final result coming from the artist is what I want, why I chose that specific artist and part of the fun is the surprise of what is produced.

Thanks, guys.  Yeah when I get back a "proof" of the pencils and they ask me to suggest any changes I have always responded with "looks great--move forward" and leave it at that. For the most part you should have an idea of what you are getting yourself into when you commission an artist anyway.

I have only ever received 2 "proofs" to commissions, and they were bang on each time.

I try to let the artist do whatever they think will look best but it doesn't bother me to ask them to change something.  Some times what I have in mind is something as simple as "X fighting Y" but on occasion what I have in mind is so specific that I'll just tell them up front what I want in terms of layout or positions or whatever and then work with them from there.

In terms of how many proofs / prelims I get I've actually gotten a lot.  Usually just sending me a quick scan of the pencils before they start inking.  I used to throw them up on my CAF page but there were so many and they were so often so crud that I stopped.

Fred Chamberlain - You must have robbed a bank to afford all those piece...wow!

I am always amazed at the number of art pieces some of you guys buy in a year.  I'm way poorer than I thought!

*edit - to fix spelling mistake.

A recent commission I had done I questioned the costume, because all i could remember was the character's costume from the 1980s, so the artist sent me an e-mail of cover of an old Amazing Spider-Man showing where he got the costume from.  Worked for me.

Looking back at my commission work I think I've only gotten a scan of the unfinished product about a third of the time.

It's as addictive as comics were to me as a kid. I actually renogotiated at work and the timing was right that I am falling into some nice pieces, feeling like spoiling myself a bit.....certainly NOT rich by any means, though when you buy a bunch of pages, you tend to get some bargaining room. :)

...and Mr. Roy, didn't you recently complete a full set of Amazing Spider-Man? ;p

I've been working a bunch of OT over the past month, so my art purchasing has shot up, but once we get slow in about three weeks, it'll pretty much disappear for awhile. (plus I don't use credit cards, so if I don't have the cash I don't have the art)

No Fred, you have me confused with Eddie DiAngelinie (Punk, Funk and Junk on the comicboards).  I wish that was me though!

Diapers and milk are drying my wallets faster than I can fill it.

Derek, I usually have the opposite problem.  Having to apologize for sending too much reference to the artist.  Partially thinking they shouldn't have to be bothered with it and partially fearing they might accidentally pick the wrong version of a character.
