Another bug related thing...as a kid and younger adult i
only had to move a stone in the garden and i'd see shiny
black beetles. Now i never see even one. I do a fair bit of
gardening and my garden is wildlife friendly, and i see
other insects, i even have a toad who i see on occasion
who's lived here for a few years, and i don't use
pesticides.

After fighting so hard all summer to resist turning on my a/c as little as possible - I've only had it on three times, (need to keep costs down) and I think all three were during the early July heat wave on the East Coast. I am losing the battle tonight.
I'm in Brooklyn and that Lovin' Spoonful song about summer in the city with your neck gettin' dirty and gritty and people looking half dead on the sidewalk is very, very true.

I’m currently on our annual youth camp.
We usually are inundated with wasps as we eat.
Not. A . One.
We had a couple when we set up the tents, but that was it. A couple.
I think we have reached several tipping points this year.

We’ve only had 2 days since June 28 that it hasn’t rained. And it’s still
hotter than hell every day.

James, there's been plenty of wasps around the yard at
work, one colleague has a wasp phobia and it's been
particularly difficult for him. We are quite close to
Cannock Chase, so that may be a factor. Had plenty of bees
in my garden too.
As for air conditioning which Edward mentioned, it's not
really a thing in domestic dwellings in the U.K. yet. I
have bought two 42" tall tower fans with DC brushless
motors and they are cheap to run and virtually silent on
the lower settings. Got one in the lounge and one in the
bedroom, and they are the best investment i made this year!

We are at Stafford showground Bill
The bins are usually full of wasps but again, nothing
here. It's really weird.
Our lavender Bush at home has had loads of bees, but I'm
just not seeing wasps at all.
Good to know there are at least some near Cannock.
