My dad, being a traveling preacher, was all-in on that shit.••• So lucky my dad picked up Buddhism when he was in India and Burma during the War.

My church's rantings on Satanism in music was a great way to pique my curiosity and find out more about Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Black Sabbath, etc.

“ My church's rantings on Satanism in music was a great way to pique my curiosity and find out more about Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Black Sabbath, etc.”*************** Gene Simmons of KISS was accused by Bible thumpers of making Satanic hand gestures on stage and in photos. But of course, all of you realized as a huge comics fan, Simmons was intentionally doing the hand gesture Spider-Man does when shooting webbing. Right?

The quote doesn't sound indirect, it sounds coy but direct. It can't be God though; he had plenty of alternative weapons at his disposal, including (but not limited to) plagues of frogs, gnats & locusts; pestilence; rivers of blood; darkness; and mass infanticide.

The quote is from the first Galactus “trilogy”. Scripted by Stan. Should be easy enough to find.

Correct. I transplanted. Sue is referring to the Surfer, not Galactus.

I’m pretty sure you’re a self described atheist JB. Did your father try to impart any Buddhism to you?••• My grandparents encouraged their sons to follow their own paths. Uncle Arthur became deeply rooted in the Church of England, and Dad discovered the teachings of Siddhartha. He let me follow my own journey. Ultimately it led me away from organized religion and such fairy tales.

And many of us have heard the story of Rick Veitch leaving DC after they nixed his story of the Swamp Thing being present at the crucifixion. That would have been later 80s but had it seen publication, I can imagine the controversy especially as it was at roughly the same time "The Last Temptation of Christ" got so many knickers in a twist.
Story is it was finally going to be published in 2019 but was nixed again.

Roy Thomas worked a crucifixion reference into his origin of Adam Warlock. (I find myself thinking of a Robert Silverberg novel, UP THE LINE, in which time travel has been perfected and has become a tourist activity. The most popular junket is the “Crucifixion Run”—but there’s a catch: this form of time travel is cumulative, so if you visit the same place more than once, you will see your previous selves. Because of the number of repeat visitors to the death of Jesus, it’s estimated there will eventually be more people gathered around Golgotha than lived in Palestine at the time!)

Vinny Valenti: Well, I'm far from being an expert, but knows some of the basic stuff.
Colin Ian Campbell: Sounds like Jesus in Howard the Duck was before Shooter decided that Marvel should not reflect Christianity as the true religion, but if he appeared in Ghost Rider Annual v2 #1, which should be the 90s, it's a little unexpected.
Scott Gray: Thanks
Edward Aycock: There were already so many religions references in Swamp Thing that it does seem strange that they would not allow the crucifixion.
John Byrne: Jim Starlin had, as many probably remembers, Roy Thomas being crucified in Adam Warlock, with clowns throwing pies at him. The cross is almost identical to the one Adam Warlock himself died on.
