…the unpublished cover to Daredevil #200…

Hadn't seen that before. That a cover had already been done, and was
rejected, would go a long way toward explaining that panicked call I got
from the editor, lo these many years ago!

Cool story. That guy is a class act and brings a smile to my face with every piece that I've seen and every strip that I've read.

 | Great Hembeck, JB! Btw, as one who isn't really familiar with Hembeck's work (other than what I've seen from the collections of you guys), are there any available collections or likewise of any of his stuff. The stuff I've seen in here amuses me greatly, so he seems like someone I should have a closer look at. |

Joakim, Hembeck has an Omnibus coming out soon and there are a few one-shots (Fred Hembeck Kills the DC Universe, Fred Hembeck Destroys the Marvel Universe, the Fantastic Four Roast) and Hembeck Files (7 of them in total, I believe.), which he published on his own in the early 1980's.

Considering how violent your cover to #200 is, it's ironic that the back of Luke's unpublished version reads "too violent".  I find yours FAR more brutal.  (and LOVE it!)

I suppose it has a lot to do with the "violence" in my cover being implied. That can so often be much more powerful than the more obvious

DD #200 was one of the first Daredevil comics I ever bought.  Back when covers were designed to GRAB you- which this one did- and you had to see what was inside.  That issue was one of the greatest beatdowns by a hero ever.  It made me dig through boxes of back issues to see what led up to this.

(this one and the JLA cover with WW stabbed...funny, though, I have no qualms about Wolverine spilling Hellfire Club Goon guts all over the place...)

Do you recall what instructions you were given for depicting the image on the cover of DD #200?
