Thanks Steven!Page 13 I love how expressive JB makes Sprite. Makes it fun to work on. Also that first panel feels so claustrophobic!

Elsewhen page 14. Trying to experiment with different tools - quill, tech pens, brushes, markers....  My mission is to retain the pencil art as close to the original as I can - surprisingly not so easy. The second panel I think I'm pleased with the most.

The more you do, Paul, the more I detect a "Paul Willis Style". This is a good thing for you --consequently, these pages now read to me as distinctly Byrne/Willis.

Thanks, Mark! I can't see my style yet but that's because I'm too involved. That brings up a good question - I wonder when comic artist do see their style emerging(Byrne/Wills - I could get used to that! (:  )

I see mine instantly when "attempting" to ink another artist.  My shorthand for things like bushes, shadows... stuff like that.  Here is a couple examples of me inking Byrne... I found myself making subtle changes and it affects the final look drastically... even when you don't think it will.

Super-nice work Shane! Clean, smooth lines.I'm trying to get mine smooth as well. It looks fine on board but when I scan and then reduce it, it gets all grainy! I ordered some Koh-i-Noor Rapidograph pens and look forward to trying those out.

Paul... I work almost exclusively digital these days. If you want to work with Rapidographs (Like Terry Austin) I highly recommend checking out the IDW Byrne Xmen Artist's Edition... at full size, you can really see what Austin is doing with those pens.

Yup already ordered!I wasn't sure TA worked exclusively with crow quills or not. I can imagine him working with rapidograph pens because of his super clean lines. Even with the tech pen, I have no idea how he achieved such perfect lines. But In my opinion, JB and TA's work kind of grew apart in later years. After X-Men, I really enjoyed Mark Farmer, Dan Green, John Beatty's work on JB's pencils. I try to pull some influence from a little bit of each. I know there are a few more that I'm missing.  Man, I would have loved to have seen Dave Stevens ink JB - wonder what that would have looked like!

I loved Joe Rubenstein, Karl Kesel, Jerry Ordway and Dan Green over JB personally. I still have a place in my heart for Terry Austin, but I prefer a more organic line over JBs pencils.
