Let's just say there's not a whole lot of evidence that T-Rex didn't have feathers -- or, at least, down!

I have worked on SOOOooo many T. Rex books and products, and every time
we try to show T. Rex with feathers the publishers always shout us down.
Never mind that the authors work closely with paleontologists, and have a
lot of data to prove the very probable possibility.
"That's not how they looked while I was growing up" is the usual response.
Kids are familiar with the idea, because they have heard of it. But grown-ups
still think it's too weird.

Somehow, I kinda like the idea of a T-Rex looking like a giant cockatoo.
Possibly because, as a kid, the first time I saw dinosaur skin impressions I
thought Looks like a plucked chicken!

Before this turns into major thread drift -- there is a program on NOVA this week about the "four winged dinosaur" they found in China a few years back. Check your local listings.Fascinating stuff. The prevailing theory is that feathers came long before flight, as insulation, and developed for flight out of running and hopping. The big debate seems to be whether ir happened from the ground up, or down from the treetops.

Having been visited a few times in our back yard by a flying squirrel, I'm
definitely in the "down from the trees" camp.
Of course, all this "what did the dinosaurs really look like" stuff has me
wondering one thing:
Has there ever been a good sculpt of Beta Ray Bill?
