Isn't Black Knight's cape supposed to be blue? Not that I don't like this red&black Dracula style cape...

In the Rub Salt in Old Wounds department, I came across this item over on
Midtowncomics website (listed as Out of Stock).

Historically accurate to the point of leaving the hyphen out of Spider-Man --
but painting the costume blue? sigh

It's been a long time since costume designs or even character names have had much to do with the who and what of those characters. The Image Boys really pounded home the "cool name is all you need" approach, with little or no consideration of Stan's old rule that a character's name should allow you to pick him/her out of a group, at the very least by a process of elimination.

But they were riding a wave that went back more than a decade. I can well recall Stan grousing about the new X-Men, indicating that their names and even their costumes were not enough to tell us at a glance who was Wolverine, who was Nightcrawler, who was Storm, who was Banshee. Even a process of elimination didn't help. (Stan had guessed at one point that the most animalistic looking member of the team must be Wolverine -- it was Nightcrawler -- and that the one with the long white hair and flowing cape must be Banshee.)

Yeah - y'd think maybe an alias or codename would match the character in such a way as to make that name and character identifiable as one and the same.

Spider-Man? Guy in the webbed costume with a spider on the front and back.

Cyclops? Guy front and center of those "X-Men" characters - has a visor makes it look like he has only one eye.

Human Torch? The flying on fire guy.

Doctor Octopus? Hey, look at them arms!

Vulture? Nice wings, buddy!

Cable? The guy with a TV for a body and satellite dishes for shoulder pads.
