Hey Gene Kovacs -- how did you get your Spectre and Dr. Fate figures to stand up? Those are two of my favorites, but they're almost impossible to display!

Nice Superman figure, Joe -- I remember as a kid buying a second Superman figure just so I could use him to create my own Hal Jordan Green Lantern figure. That was my first attempt at customizing, I think, and I learned then that glossy Testors enamel model paint doesn't like to adhere to the soft plastic (rubber?) that they used for some parts of the figures (most specifically the trunks, I believe). Looked good, but didn't hold up so well when being played with.

No, no close ups yet, sorry.
I think I just lucked out with Fate and Spec. I know the ankle joints are pretty weak on a lot of the figures, and that rubber cape is a pain. Basically I bent the lower edge with the wire in it so the figure would tilt backwards, but because of it's weight, the rubber would flex, and in the end, actually look level. So far, all these years, and thru several different climate zones Spectre hasn't toppled over.
Some of the figures I have with the weaker joints, I've gone ahead and super glued.

I was looking, just now, at the plethora of "action figures" MidTownComics offers on their website, and finding myself struck once again by the truly hideous ball-joint articulation that has become so popular of recent vintage. A Dark Phoenic caught my eye in thumbnail, but the rull sized image revealed a figure so grotesquely distorted by the articulation it evoked thoughts of an Auschwitz survivor who had been in a terrible skiing accident.And as I looked thru some of the other figures offered, I found myself wondering why they are so excessively articulated. I mean, they're not supposed to come out of the blister pack to be played with, right? Toy collector's heads explode at the mere though of such a thing. And, frankly, remembering my own experiences with toys, I can't imagine a kid wanting to play with things this ugly. Seriously -- what's the point?

The over articulation has put me off many of Marvel's figures (they seem to be more of a culprit for this).
Its a pity cos I'd love figures of some characters they've released e.g. Banshee. Maybe they'll do a figurine of him.

I would like that Guardian figure a lot if it wasn't so shiny. There's nothing I've seen in the way that JB drew him that ever indicated that his suit was shiny.
