I was messing about on DC Direct:
I'm a fan of the barbarian Hawkman thing. I like these, even though the first may be too musclebound. The second has a nice physical sword and sandal feel to it.

A sweet Red Tornado, I think:
Just notice, no cape. Kind of odd.

Some of these Watchmen things are turning out. The Comedian looks pretty nice.

Chad, have you seen the First Appearance Superman from the Superman
Through the Ages set? The rest of the set is crap, but this figure looks
just like a Joe Shuster Superman. I bought it loose on eBay.
And, I just got the Curt Swan Superman which came out yesterday. It's pretty
cool, but it kind of misses the mark on Curt Swan's look.

I disagree. I think it's a very good representation of the Swan Superman.
Because of the interchangeable heads and hands, I bought 4. . .

And, of course, this little lady -- somewhat out of focus.

My morbid curiosity is wondering what delightfully devious thing you've done with the "regular" heads?

Put 'em in the plastic container one of the figures came in, along with the
spare lions and bugs and future men.
Give me time, tho. I'll think of something. . . .

I saw that Superman tearing open his shirt statue (in the JB pic above) at an LCS here in town.
How much did it run you, JB? I don't trust the LCS manager not to rip me a new hole if I ask for it. Then you have to stand dumbfounded by price while he removes it from your street urchin hands...

One thing that's bothered me about Superman...what happened to the more light shade of blue that is represented in a lot of the comics of the 70s, which I remember being the proper color, to the more blue/electric blue look since the, what, 1980s? Is that an illusion on my part?
I remember as a kid being struck by the lighter blue and red, both on the uniform and the logo of the Superman comic. Also on a 7-11 cup I had (briefly). I've been trying to figure out for years why Superman doesn't seem the same (aside from the weird mullets and Millerized moron versions of the character) visually, and it seems to me DC deepened the blue??? The movie version wore a blue that was acceptable, but the Unspeakable had the blue much darker (and the red) as well.
I may be hallucinating?

You're not hallucinating. Here's a Swan Superman next to a Ross Superman
(and notice which one looks a lot more superheroic and which one looks like
an angry old man)
.
