Ah, John Noakes...a childhood hero of us U.K. 70's kids.
Along with Shep the dog. Regarding that clip and the bit
saying that a cameraman probably went up one handed. I
doubt it with 70's cameras being very bulky and heavy.

I learned about him from the Irish novelty song, "Up Went Nelson in Old Dublin" - and had to unlearn things to come the long way around to understanding that Nelson was more than a representation of English intrusion and oppression. Funny how history can be shaped by the way we learn it.
