When my son was in daycare the year before he started kindergarten…••• When i was 5, kindergarten WAS day care. It was not considered part of the normal school structure. None of this K-thru-12 business.

... since the discussion has drifted to dreams ...
on more than one occassion i have had dreams with credits, you know, "starring ..." "directed by me".
i have repeats, like one where i and another person are 'stuck' in the same washroom in the same house and have to get out. same plot but with different guest stars.
and finally, almost all my dreams (the ones i remember) involve a quest, trying to find someone, trying to find something, going from point a to point b ... i do a lot of walking/driving/train-ing/plane-ing in my dreams.
anyone else notice any 'trends' in their dreams ?

My dreams are usually about trying to make my way home. Sometimes it’s very simple—I am in a large hotel and I have forgotten where my room is. Sometimes I am in a large city (bearing a strong resemblance to the French Quarter in New Orleans) and I am trying to get across town to my house. Usually they take place a night, albeit well lit. Most of the time I end up in a giant toy store. None of them are nightmares.

I was thinking you were describing a stress dream until you got to the giant toy store part, JB!
I apologize for further thread drift, but I’m curious if you remember: when I started working in education, kindergarten in Ontario was a two year, half day affair: junior kindergarten and senior kindergarten. Maybe a decade ago they changed it to two year full day kindergarten, meaning we’d often have three year olds in the classroom for seven hour school days, which to me is madness. How was it different in your day, JB?

I just remembered that every now and then I'd have the same dream that I have one leg longer than the other by about 6-10 inches, so I have to hobble very awkwardly to walk. I think I recall at some time in my life somebody commenting that I walked funny, and I suppose that subconsciously stuck with me.
It took decades before I found out from the footprints from my getting out of a pool that an ex-gf pointed out to me that I was actually flat-footed.

In my day, as noted, kindergarten was basically day care. School started with first grade. The rise of double income families, were the husband and wife both had jobs outside the home, created a need for somewhere to put the kids, and so kindergarten became the official starting point.

Noted, I was more inquiring about the length of day and whether it was a part or full day kind of thing, but I recognize I’m overthinking it. ‘twas daycare, ‘nuff said!

My parents didn’t send me to daycare or kindergarten, and by the time I started school we were back in England.

(And I'll ask: has anyone here ever first remembered a dream only hours after being awake?)

More often, I remember dreams pretty quickly after awakening but there are times when I remember parts of them hours later, usually because something in real life sparked a reminder.

I woke this morning from a con dream. Remember only crowds and one long table of pros signing autographs. As I walked along it I came up to Jim Shooter, darkly shadowed. He said “A sketch?” and I walked on without a word.

I do have occasional dreams where it is was revealed that a loved one faked their own death. Clearly I've been reading comics for too long. I know that subconciously I had unfinished business with them and the dreams are my way of working them out.
e.g, it gnaws at me that my mom never got to know that I ended up marrying the friend from high school that she wished I had gotten together with years ago (observing me in unhappy relationships with other women at that time) - we didn't reconnect for nearly 20 years, but she had already passed a few years before at that point.
