Here's another "If only--!"
I've been reading the DOC SAVAGE paperbacks from the 70's lately (reprinting the earlier pulp magazine stories) and, boy, I can't help but picture Doc in my head as Rich Buckler might have drawn him! John Buscema and Tony DeZuniga did most of the 70's Marvel magazine issues (practically medium-length graphic novels), with Ross Andru penciling most of Marvel's comic series. Ernie Chan did the 8th (and final) magazine, while Buckler did the layouts for the 8th (and final) issue of the earlier comic (with Jack Abel credited with "finished art" for most of it). Here's one cover Buckler did all by himself. Buscema did a great job on the magazine issues he did, but I can't help but wish Buckler had done more--at least all of both #8's! If ever an artist and a character seemed perfect for each other--!
