Yesterday I received in the mail a solicitation for money—already forgotten from whence it came—including in the envelope a !!REAL!! Kennedy half dollar. (The excitement is expressed by the ones who sent it, not me.)

This morning I glanced at the date, and discovered the coin was minted in 1971, the year THE DEATH’S HEAD KNIGHT was printed at the Alberta College of Art, and I began my journey towards a career in comics. FIFTY FOUR YEARS AGO!

So much time, so much work, so much distance. And all the while that coin, spent and respent who knows how many times, was making its way towards my pocket. Have to wonder if it was ever used to buy some product of mine!

Year of my birth!  And now when I have to scroll down online to it, it seems to take forever.

Also, a very, very, very good year for film and music.

I would love to see THE DEATH'S HEAD KNIGHT get reprinted one day.  It's too late for me to be a Byne completist but this seems quite special.

Reprinting might require some sort of crowdfunding. Guarantee there are enough interested parties to make it financially viable before ink touches paper.

After all, this really would be the ultimate niche product!!

I think about moments of serendipity all the time. One that pops up often for some reason is the drop of rain that fell out of a cloud, falling to the ground and we intersected at exactly a point where it hits me in the eye.

I think about that with the light from stars. The Andromeda galaxy captures my interest. At two million light years distant, it has been sending out photons since before there were true humans on Earth. And after that uninterrupted journey thru space, those photons reach my eyes—and stop!

1971

Regular planned trips to the moon. Wartime draft. The Beatles broken up. Playboy magazine. Volkswagen mini-buses. Elliot Gould.

I could go on and on. So many earmarks of that time that are easy to recall.
