The Colors and Editing results alone make me suspicious of the rest.

Mike's is a favorite of mine. Invaluable spot for research. I'm on it several times a week.
Do we have a majority on what is JB's first professional published work? I've read a couple of different things and none match my own research.

My first professional sale was to THE MONSTER TIMES, a New York based tabloid, just a few weeks before my 21st birthday, in 1971. (54 years ago!!!!!!!!)

Yes, THE MONSTER TIMES was one of those cited. Listed "DO NOT DISTURB" issue #16 Oct. '72 as your first.I got a bunch of those TMT and I found this one from #13 July '72 when it was eventually printed. Love the TOS references!

Very cool! Some dates:
If Fantastic Four 32 marked the end of young John Byrne's reading days, that was late 1964.
Then John Byrne, professional cartoonist, lands his first job, and that was mid-1971.
I'm sure those middle 6 years felt like an eternity, but realizing the first pages of X-Men Elsewhen were penciled 6 years ago now makes that period from fan-to-pro sound like the blink of an eye!

Didn’t feel like it, I can assure you. Six years now seems like nothing, but back then—well, six years was almost a quarter of my life!

Possibly contributing to the sensation of how long those years were is the historical oddity that 1964-1971 experienced an exceptional amount of change.
In many ways (TOO MANY ways) 2025 does not feel tremendously different from 2019.

Those pages are great. You can see hints of what's to come! Also really like the cigarette smoke forming the title.
