Comparing the Heather we ended up with in ALPHA FLIGHT to the Heather shown in ELSEWHEN (with a very much alive Mac), I'm good with Mac being gone.

You LIKED what they did to Heather?

Heather was one of my absolute favourite 'civilian' characters before she became a superheroine. She could still be heroic without putting on a suit.

Having made the decision to have her take on the Vindicator role, Marvel didn't even try to make her journey interesting.

I wonder where she got the suit, since Mac’s original got blowed up real good?

IIRC, Bochs and Jeffries put something together for her.

You may sigh even more at this - they took the costume that was left in the Edmonton Mall parking lot after Jeffries “disemboweled” Courtney.

So it’s all your fault!!!!

I am resigned to the fact that everything I ever worked on is destined to be shat upon, but couldn’t they at least be clever about it?

I didn’t remember that part.

Where’d Courtney come from? Did someone from Roxxon build her?

JB - did you intend for Jerome Jaxon to have died?

I think he (and Courtney) would be cool recurring villains for Alpha Flight.

Alpha Flight #12... I bought it as a back issue in, I would guess 1987, possibly late 1986.

I first encountered Alpha Flight as a back up story in the pages of the Marvel UK reprints of Secret Wars. I remember being underwhelmed at first at its tone. At the time, I wanted full on super heroes, and this was slightly shifted away from that. But it grew on me in a big way. Loved the mini origin stories. UK Secret Wars stopped reprinting AF after the Super Skrull two-parter though, and hence my move to start picking up back issues. My aim was almost true ... AF 11 was one of the last of the JB issues I picked up and I went straight for 12 first. It is still a favourite: satisfyingly long, full of action and strong characterisation, building to its gut-punch of an ending.

JB, what would have been your preferred colour for the cover?

I think it was a little ambiguous - or at least like all great comic book writers you had an 'out' in regards to his death.

Moot point now - surprised no one has brought him back. or brought back Courtney 2.0, 3.0, etc.
