He'd been on IRON MAN for around a year-and-a-half when the memo went out and started his ASM run that year as well.

Don't forget, Bob Layton and John Romita, Jr. were considered a popular art team like JB and Terry Austin in those days.

Tom Palmer enhances any penciler he inks over. I like Tom on pretty much
everyone but especially Gene Colan and John Buscema.

Ditto!

I really enjoyed the Byrne/Palmer pairing on XMHY. And if you look at JRJr's
pencils on KICK@$$, it's easy to see just how much he brings to the table
there. It's a LOT!

I like Palmer over Neal Adams and John Buscema. I find his inks a touch overpowering when it comes to JB.

Just to throw my two cents in about Frank Miller and DAREDEVIL: Klaus Janson is essential to that run. Just as much as Sinnott over Kirby on FF, Palmer over Colan on TOMB OF DRACULA. You can't really have the effect of Miller's DD, Kirby's FF, or Colan's DRACULA without the inking. The DD books would have missed an entire subtext without Janson's thick, oppressive, sin-soaked inks.

On Bob Layton, I have to admit those IRON MAN issues with JR Jr. are as classic as they are because of the pairing. Whatever is felt about Layton and his post-IRON MAN life, that team produced an unforgettable Iron Man.

I agree with Mike Friedrich -- JB should have penciled the whole calendar!
