Love the closeup on Magneto in this morning's page!
(Also, "off" his guard, perhaps?)

Magneto is an evil SOB but you can't take your eyes away.
His costume is, of course, fantastic (I like the gleams on the helmet in that first panel) and the way he uses his powers is both grandiose and fluent. He doesn't even need to look!

I really like the expression on The Watcher's face in the final panel. I love all the nuances of expression in the faces throughout the series, in fact.

Wow. Somehow, I can't see this Magneto atoning for his crimes before the World Court, and going all X-Men-good-guy.
Which, of course, is PERFECT characterization. Mr. Byrne, as with Dr. Doom, you have a feel for those arch-villains that would melt someone's face off. Brrr... Magneto!
It's an alternate world, so I'm not sure what to expect... but what if Wanda falls for Jean, instead of Scott falling for her? Yes, yes, pardon the Claremontism - but it might happen.
And OOO - does that Jean look angry! It's hard to wait for this tale to unfold!

This latest page adds to Magneto's manipulating villainy . The feelings within me keep growing stronger that this guy must be dealt with. Clear distinctions between good guys and bad guys is how I like my comics. Brilliant!
Pondering if an anemic person would have a better chance to get close to Magneto :-)

Quick question:Just thinking ahead and behind to Alternate Cyclops' eventual appearance and I was looking over the designs included in "The Art of John Byrne" from back in the day and it struck me that the "visor" designs and some of the other sketches included in the book had an ever so slight "H.R. Giger" feel to them. Seeing as it was the late 70's, did Giger have any influence at all on your art of the time?

JB has certainly had many artists who inspired them and it shows in their art, along with outright imatators, Richard.

I remember a comic pro saying he didn't see John Byrne in Vic Bridge's work.
