There is something about Xavier's head in that bottom panel. Taken out of all context, I would SWEAR Jack Kirby drew it. I don't know why precisely, but it evokes!

I'll second how awesome that Phoenix effect is in that panel, JB--it's truly fantastic.
With word from Marvel that the Phoenix is returning (to fight the Avengers this time, it seems), I guess that the idea of the Phoenix being a recurring threat has been realized. Wonder how long it will take them to dub the character "PhoenX."

Just a note: I really appreciate that JB used proper grammar in that first panel of Thursday's page. I don't often see writers (in all media) these days bother to get it right, and as a long-time editor, I like it when writers do. Thanks, JB!

This story, man, it's so good but, you're killing me, JB.•• Not for much longer. Believe it or not, THIS Phoenix story actually wraps up by the end of this "issue". But then, there are other places to go. . . . . . .
