If I had to guess, it’s to pave the way for overturning the 2026 midterms. Among many, many other things. Authoritarians always destroy courts, and higher education, and any other institutions they see as impediments to their control. It’s just the playbook, and they’re following it closely.

That’s a good point Dave. I’ve been wondering why he’s started to up the heat on the 2020 elections again, especially in his bizarre tirade against the war yesterday, and now wonder if it could be a pre-emotive against losing some of the mid-terms.
If he doesn’t do as well as he would like, does he declare those were rigged, tries to null and void them, and come the 2028 elections, refuse to hold them.

Nothing to see here. Just the President of the United States openly planning to build concentration camps in El Salvador to hold "home grown" citizens.
"Homegrowns are next!" Trump hopes to deport and jail U.S. citizens abroad

I don't want to speculate, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me.

If he is dead, or not returned to the U.S., and I was the next President, I'd have Trump and the ICE officers who arrested him put on trial for it.

Obama's failure to do anything to pursue justice for Bush and his torture regime paved the road for slow-walking Trump and his co-conspirators to minimal or zero consequences for their crimes.
When Trump starts spuriously prosecuting Biden and Obama administration officials, hopefully it will sink in for Democrats that bipartisan collegiality norms are as dead as our childhoods and legitimate prosecutions should be on the table. Democrats want to avoid a recrimination cycle, but we're already in one.

It's something, at least. I appreciate Van Hollen's clarity and persistence on this. I'm not a Maryland resident, but have property there, so he's tangentially one of my senators.

So how's everyone feeling about this "no due process" thing and deporting Americans to a foreign concentration camp?
Still recognize the country?
