Marvel must be kicking themselves in the butt, since they had the opportunity to publish Elsewhen and fumbled the ball.

Marvel really should publish a companion Elsewhen prequel book with the original version of X-Men 137 and a reconstructed original version of X-Men 138.

I doubt it would happen but it would be cool.

My copy is on the way, Amazon says, along with the LEGENDS omnibus. So lots of JB goodness headed my way.

I know you don’t hold the LEGENDS gig as a high point of your career, but
for this fan, the first time seeing all these DC characters I knew (and even
more I didn’t) being drawn by you, well, that was a great time to be a 13-
year-old comics fan. Yes, nostalgia is a powerful drug, but you can at least
be assured that your end of the package will stand the test of time whereas
other aspects may not.

Aww man, got mine today. The last copy on the shelf. (Leaving only the one in the window!)  I cant quite put into words the great feeling of  taking that home with me today. Y'know coming to life out of the screen as an actual book. In my early days on this forum, I looked at it a couple of times to see some of the art, then I held off in the hope that someday it would be printed as a comic book. And finally today my deferred gratification paid off, and I got my wish!

It was like a return to my childhood. (Who says you can't go home again!) And the characters the way that I discovered them, before so many silly choices and changes were made. I mean sooo great to see Wolverine in the proper brown and tan outfit, and what felt like my versions of Cyclops, Storm, Kitty etc, back in character in brand new stories with me having no idea of how they would go. What plots and twists might lay ahead. I'm actually only about a third of the way through it. (67 pages to the point where a certain other super hero shows up.) As I'm really savouring it. But I'll probably read some more tonight, if not all of it.

But just wanted to say thanks to JB. This book is pure joy, given form. (And good choice for the paper quality too.)

I'm just so grateful that you did this and then let it be shared in this way. Absolutely love it! Thanks again!

Much to my surprise and delight, Amazon Canada still had a
few in stock - mine will arrive by Tuesday!

And Legends, if nothing else, shot Karl Kesel very high on
my list of inkers that I like seeing on JB.

So, of course some negative feedback has begun. Here and there across the internet we find Crusaders launching their micro-campaigns against the Great Satan that is John Byrne.

John Byrne the racist. John Byrne the homophobe. John Byrne the transphobe. Serious charges.

But one thing they all—all!—have in common: no quotes to support them. John Byrne is a racist, but no examples are given. John Byrne is a homophobe*, but no evidence is presented. All the statements are made as if grounded in absolute fact—but no facts are forthcoming.

As I have said before, I am well aware of my tendency to shoot from the lip, mostly without filters. But I feel no urge to self-censor. I stand behind everything I have ACTUALLY said. It’s all out there. Anyone can find it.

Except, apparently, those who attack me.

*Northstar was apparently some kind of accident.

I walked into my comic shop yesterday afternoon just as the
owner was talking to a customer about the new ELSEWHEN
book. The customer was an X-Men fan/reader who had not
heard of this project. He seemed intrigued. I'm pretty
sure he bought a copy. I saw a box of the books, looks
like they had ordered around ten copies.

Refreshing!

I caught some online chatter about an IDW editor who wanted to boycott (!) ELSEWHEN, but apparantly has no problem with their own company publishing new Star Trek reprints from JB ... double standards anyone?
Also, as JB says, no actual quotes or facts. That would ruin the message.

Peter, would that be the woman with the initials HA who is acting out her role as a social justice warrior?

Not worth even discussing further, really. Luckily it's already dissipated like a fart in the wind. When Rich Johnson of all people actually performs some journalism and pushes back on BS, that's something.
