Louis D. Brandeis: American Prophet by Jeffrey Rosen. Brandeis's significance as a constitutional theorist. Good for lawyers and legal scholars; most people will likely prefer a more general biography.

Continuing with AMERICA'S LOST WAR. Growing more angry and frustrated with every page. And at this point there's "only" 11,000 Americans over there.

Kitty Genovese: The Murder, the Bystanders, the Crime that Changed America by Kevin Cook Found myself thinking about this notorious case, recently. Decided to read up on it. (To my utter disgust, when I looked for a pictur on Google, the second reference was to WATCHMEN. Not bad enough the tragic story of this young woman becomes comicbook fodder, that has to become part of how she is remembered.)

I will be starting No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II by Doris Kearns Goodwin this weekend on our flight(s) to Oregon. I hope to finish my re-reading of FATALE by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips by then.

The War on Cops by Heather MacDonald. Some very interesting facts and statistics in support of her arguments. Perhaps overstated at points, but a useful corrective to the reigning PC line.

Audiobook, Day Shift (A Novel of Midnight, Texas) by Charlaine Harris
When psychic Manfred's client drops dead in the middle of a reading, he is suspected of murder and jewelry theft. Some unusual residents of the town of Midnight, Texas, to wit, a hitwoman, a witch and her familiar, two gay angels, a telepath and three were-tigers attempt to assist.
Second book of Harris's I've tried, based on my enjoyment of the early seasons, at least, of True Blood. At the risk of sounding sexist, her writing seems to me to have more appeal for women than for men. I may be back, but I tend to doubt it. Very mildly recommended.

"the second reference was to WATCHMEN. Not bad enough the tragic story of this young woman becomes comicbook fodder, that has to become part of how she is remembered"
Judging by recent scholarship, her fate is to be mis-remembered based on inaccurate NY Times Reporting. I wonder if you've read the Harlan Ellison story, "The Whimper of Whipped Dogs," and if you have similar distaste for that treatment? [I had it in my head that that story, like much of Ellison's stuff, had been adapted to comics, but on checking I don't find it so listed on the internet. Maybe I was thinking of "Rockgod"?]
