FUZZY SAPIENS by H. Beam Piper

••

I read and enjoyed the first one, LITTLE FUZZY, in the early Seventies. For
some reason I did not get around to the second, even tho I had bought both in
a single volume. (My mother read and loved both of 'em. Probably the only
science fiction she ever read!)

••

JB, the three Fuzzy books by Piper are all good, though LITTLE FUZZY remains
my favorite. The only decent one by an author other than Piper is GOLDEN
DREAM. If I correctly recall though, some of what is written in that book
doesn't fit with the things Piper established.

I've ordered HAVE SPACESUIT, WILL TRAVEL, by Robert A. Heinlein. I haven't read it since I was a pre-teen, and I confess it's the only Heinlein book I've been able to read all the way thru.

Since I have been describing the plot to my coloring book adventure as "kind of like a Heinlein Juvenile," I thought it might be wise to reread this, to make sure my plot isn't TOO much like that one particular Heinlein Juvenile!

Just finished Heinlein's "Door Into Summer": a couple of HUGE coincidences that allow the story to happen; but also a huge "ick" factor near the end, that was set up early on but that I thought was going to be side-stepped. Not one of his better stories.

Recently heard the audiobook version of "Leonard" read by William Shatner. (Spurred in part by listening to his autobiography "Up Til Now.")

I was hoping for more about Nimoy himself, but naturally it was a lot about Shatner remembering working with and later being friends with Nimoy; and the last 15 minutes or so (in the book probably the last dozen pages or so) about their "break up."

My feeling is that this book is about Shatner trying to come to terms with this broken friendship. In any case, he does an admirable job of capturing Nimoy.

On the other hand, I love Heinlien's Door into Summer. it's the only
one of his books I reread. The characters are relatable and there are
some genuinely moving scenes. Pete in particular is a wonderfully
realized character.

Re-reading Kim Newman's ANNO DRACULA, an 'alternate history' based on Dracula not being defeated at the end of Stoker's novel, as well as a cross-over with other literary figures of the era.  I'm also fond of the sequel, THE BLOODY RED BARON set in WWI, but I haven't enjoyed anything else in the series.

Mid-way through book two of the ANNO DRACULA series, THE BLOODY RED BARON; this one set in WWI rather than Victorian London.

The Burning Room by Michael Connelly. One of my favorite writers.
