Just finished:

PERSONAL by Lee Child, the latest in his ongoing Jack Reacher series. Nothing new for JR in this novel, but I am hoping that things will perk up when the next JR book is released on September 8th.

SILESIAN STATION by David Downing, the second book in his John Russell espionage series. I enjoyed this book more than the first one, so I think I am going to continue to see where this series leads.

Currently reading:

THE CUT by George Pelecanos, the first book featuring his newest character, ex-OEF veteran Spero Lucas. I have enjoyed reading other Pelecanos novels over the years so I thought I would give his newest series a try.

“Pope Francis (Pastor of Mercy)” by Michael J. Ruszala and Wyatt North

THE WRIGHT BROTHERS by David McCullough

Listening, rather than reading. I have the CD set in the car. Only on the first disk, but enjoying it. (McCullough reads it himself -- sad to hear him sounding so old!)

One point that brought a smile to my lips: their father, a clergyman of high standing in Ohio, allowed his children (4 boys, one girl) to read, think and explore for themselves. Doing so, Wilbur and Orville stopped attending church.

I'm thinking I'm ready to read my Bond books finally, any particular order to read them in or just go by publishing date?

************

IIRC, the books are pretty much in chronological order by publishing date.

Yes, read Bond in publishing order. Some have cliffhangers!

Bond: You should at least read "Casino Royale" First as it establishes the character, and "You Only Live Twice" sets up "The Man With the Golden Gun".

And the "Spy Who Loved Me" is written from the perspective of a female character that meets Bond. Fleming's attempt to write in a "female voice" and quite successful if I'm any judge. That book could certainly be read out of sequence.

I could go on but will stop here.

I have offically become too lazy or busy to read for long periods of time, so I joined Audible. Just finished THE SCARLET GOSPELS by Clive Barker.

Strong points are the Pinhead portions while the hero of the piece, Harry D'Amour, has the weaker portions. A nice send-off to both characters.

I'm just about to start The Last Threshold by Bob Salvatore.

I too am a Bond fan and you can't go wrong with Mr. Flemings novels. As mentioned, do go in order (not movie order either). If you need more Bond after that, Colonel Sun by Robert Markham would be next. Not bad, in a Fleming sort of way. I did read all of the John Gardner books that followed and I recommend to also read these in order. Of course different than Fleming but I enjoyed them too.

Just finished listening to Dean Koontz's Saint Odd, the seventh and ostensibly final novel in his Odd Thomas series, about a young fry cook who can see the spirits of the dead, who alternatively assist or hinder him as he is drawn to battle the forces of evil.  I sort of enjoy reading Koontz for a while until I don't, and I hit the "don't" a while ago with Odd Thomas, but was lured back for the finale.  If you've read any of the others, worth reading to see how it all turns out; if not, this isn't the place to start.  The first book is the best of the lot, imho.

Robert Markham, it should be noted, was a pen name of Kingsley Amis. He, among other things, wrote THE JAMES BOND DOSSIER, an exhaustive investigation of the Bond phenomenon in the Sixties.

Robert, I have the same experience in reading Koontz. I am
about 3 books behind (I think). I got Tam into the series,
when we first started seeing one another and she's actually
read them all. Thanks for the reminder and your thoughts.
I'll make it a point to figure out where I left of and pack
them for upcoming trips.
