Just finished:

ONION STREET by Reed Farrel Coleman, which continues his Moe Prager mystery series. A terrific read.

SOME DAYS YOU GET THE BEAR by Lawrence Block, which is the third collection of his short stories.

Currently reading:

MR. MERCEDES by Stephen King. Winner of the 2014 Edgar Award for best mystery novel and the first book in a planned trilogy. The second book is going to be released next week so I am trying to finish this first one off to determine if I want to grab the sequel in hardcover.

I got my hands on the Marvel's DVDs that has hundreds of comics scanned. I did finish the whole Thor DVD which only contains the complete Kirby's run (awesome stuff by the way).

Now I filled my iPad mini with the first DVD of Iron Man, Hulk and Captain America. I am reading as I please.

TOO MANY GHOSTS (1959) by Paul Gallico

A bit of a story to go with this. I read it when I was about 15. My father had the Book of the Month Club edition. When I moved out on my own it passed from any sort of presence in my life, tho I did occasionally mention fond memories to friends. One such was apparently Carmela Merlo, wife of Roger Stern, who found a copy at a library book sale and sent it to me. Memory had not served me well! As I started to reread it I found only, well, ghosts of what I thought I recalled.

The story concerns Mr. Alexander Hero (an anglicizing of "Hereaux") who is a British ghost-buster -- tho not by choice. He longs for the day he will encounter a genuine haunting, but instead has spent his time debunking frauds. He is summoned to a country estate to investigate what seems to be a very boisterous poltergeist.

What is most interesting in this book written in the late Fifties, is that the physical description of Hero is an almost-perfect fit for Matt Smith.

I was going read Philip Josç Farmer's "Red Orc's Rage", but I didn't make it past the dedication page. I've recently re-read the World of Tiers series, but I never read the last two books. The prospect of reading a book inspired on a therapy developed by a physiologist who used the series for role playing and character bonding, does not appeal to me.

So, I moved on to "Dan Spiegle: A Life in Comic Art" from TwoMorrows publishing. Written by John Coates (no relation) and Dan Spiegle. I'll have to dig into the GCDB, reading about Dan's work at Western Publishing (DELL, Gold Key and Whitman) has stirred some memories, I need to confirm.

I have a couple of more TwoMorrows' publications awaiting my attention...

I just picked up CRIMES BY MOONLIGHT, which is a
Mystery Writers of America anthology, along with
INCARNATION by Emma Cornwall.

I've been reading a lot of Heather Graham lately. I
just read all 3 books in her Cafferty & Quinn series
(which I definitely recommend), and Phantom Evil,
which is the first book in the Krewe of Hunters
series. And I have her novel Blood Red on hold at the
local library.

JB's JACK KIRBY'S FOURTH WORLD.
For the first time.
Somehow, I missed this when it first came out.
I'm not sure how.  I love JB's stuff and certainly never missed an issue of JB's WONDER WOMAN published at the same time by the same company.  But somehow, JK4W flew right under my radar.
Finally, after almost 20 years, I just picked up the entire run on eBay, including the final four issues of NEW GODS.
I read about one issue a night, just before bedtime.

Velvet by Ed Brubaker & Steve Epting. Epting's storytelling is very good and I enjoy the way he's able make the characters 'act'.
