I just finished reading the five books of The Prydain Chronicles.
(Before that, I finished up The Ascendance Trilogy.)

Billy Joel  biography by Fred Schruers.  I read that Billy contributed a lot to the book then waned due to concerns about revealing to much.  About halfway thru and it's an interesting read so far.

THE CUCKOO'S CALLING by Robert Galbraith (aka J.K. Rowling). About halfway through now and enjoying it so far. If it finishes as strongly as it started I will check out the sequel (THE SILKWORM).

The Encyclopedia of World History, 6th Edition.

Published by the Houghton Mifflin Company under general editor Peter N. Stearns, it's the kind of concise, organized reference guide for someone like me who just can't get enough information on the "Who did What" of world events. I just can't get enough knowledge without having at least some guidepost to the concise descriptions of the subject, from which I will decide whether or not it needs further study.

The nice thing about this volume was that I purchased it dirt cheap___ at a farmers' market second-hand stall.

I'm currently in the middle of a Silver Age Marvel marathon. I started with FF#1 and taking it from there. Not reading everything, certainly, I'm mostly focusing on the high profile stuff with the big-name creators.

Anybody who hasn't tried it and has the time, I can highly recommend it! Reading the comics in order really gives a great view of their actual context and gives a decent look at the impact some of these stories must have made. You can really see on stuff like FF# 48-50 or ASM #39-40 the heroes have never been in such dire peril before.

I have also found a new-found respect for Steve Ditko. When I started collecting I wasn't a big fan of his (one possible reason being in Finland his stuff has never really been available, so there was no opportunity to get used to his style), but I've gained some respect for his style over the years. Now that I've actually read his entire Spider-Man run and compared it to the other stuff going on at the same time, I could really see how ahead of the pack that strip was, and what a great storyteller the man was. You don't even have to read one bubble in Amazing Fantasy #15 or ASM #3 to keep track of what is going on.

IMO, It isn't until the #40s when the FF catches up and sneaks ahead of Spidey. Even though I think Spidey was going from strength to strength during the Romita run, the FF was evolving at an even quicker pace. By the end of Kirby's FF Spidey has probably taken back the scepter. It's pretty amazing (yup) how long Spider-Man managed to stay an absolute top-class mag, actually.
