Currently reading THE VANISHED HANDS by Robert Wilson, the second book in his quartet of Javier Falcon mysteries set in and around Seville.
Last week I finished off SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING BLACK by Loren Estleman (the fourth book in his Peter Macklin suspense series) and NEW ORLEANS MOURNING by Julie Smith, which won the Edgar Award for best mystery novel back in 1991. I cannot recommend Estleman enough. One of the best mystery writers of his era who has been going strong since the early 80s.
For my next reading adventure I will have to choose between Steve Hamilton, Brian Freeman, Forrest Pogue, and David Halberstam. The stack of books under my nightstand is growing faster than I can keep up with it :-)

Came across this gorgeous leather-bound beauty at Barnes & Noble.
I'm only a few pages into it and it's already a fascinating read.

James Lee Burke's CREOLE BELLE. Burke is recent discovery of mine. Enjoy his characters and prose immensely.

Just picked up Fated by Benedict Jacka.
Jim Butcher, whose work I love, endorsed him and that was good enough for me.

Listening to The Passage by Justin Cronin. This is the first part of a trilogy about the Earth over run by vampires (virals) and the humans trying to survive. I love the twists and turns the story takes and the changing cast of characters. Looking forward to the second part, The Twelve.

Just finished three in a row:
IMMORAL by Brian Freeman, the first in his Jonathan Stride suspense series. It was okay, but didn't inspire me to want to read any of the sequels.
MISERY BAY by Steve Hamilton, a 2011 release in his Alex McKnight mystery series. Not sure if I will be reading any further novels in the series as it is starting to feel stale to me.
YUKON HO! by Bill Watterson, the collected syndicated cartoons published back in 1989. Great stuff. Looking forward to more quality time with Calvin & Hobbes.
Now I am diving into THE HIDDEN ASSASSINS by Robert Wilson, the third book in his Javier Falcon mystery series. Enjoying it a lot so far. Too bad there are only four books in the series.

I'm about halfway through THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST by David Halberstam... After that I think I am going to dive back into some more mystery fiction.

Just finished "Boys in the Boat" by Daniel Brown: story of the University of Washington crew team, some of their struggles, and how they went on to (Spoiler Warning) not only beat the various US teams but went on to win the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.
The main focus of the book is one of the crew, Joe Rantz, who was interviewed extensively for this, and had a tough time growing up as a teen, mostly alone, thru the Depression.
I love local (Seattle) history, and sticking it to the Nazis before the war was a great plus to these boys' stories.

I recently finished Scribe: My Life in Sports by Bob Ryan. Ryan has been dubbed "the quintessential American sportswriter", and this book demonstrates why. What a wonderful read, I enjoyed it very much.
