Lars, I intend to explore other Gemmell works after I finish this last of the Troy books. What others have you read?
I love historical fiction, and Gemmell was among the best at that genre! He was great at character development, instilling personality into these heroic figures.

Chris, I've read all of Gemmell's books! (30?) The best is his first, LEGEND. But they're all gold to me. He wrote a few stand-alone novels but my favourites are 'The Drenai books'. (which includes one I recommend, WAYLANDER)
Gemmell is like a blend of Robert E. Howard and Louis L'Amour, and I mean that in the best possble way. Fast paced story-telling with real characters that you relate to.

Gemmell's Troy series has been sitting on my Nexus for a while, and high on my "to read" list. I just finished one book about the Trojan War (THE FIREBRAND) and have at least two others also on that "to read" list. But based on the feedback here, I think I'll bump Gemmell's to the top.
Currently re-reading Dominick Dunne's THE TWO MRS. GRENVILLES -- swanky trash.

DOOMSDAY.1 trade. I forced myself to only read the first half last night. It was nearly impossible to put down but I wanted to spread the fun of a new JB story out over 2 days.

I started re-reading Steven Pressfield's LAST OF THE AMAZONS, but put it on hold. It occurred to me last night that while every Xmas season I watch plenty of holiday themed movies and TV shows and listen to lots of Xmas music, it's never once crossed my mind to read any of the famous holiday themed works.
So I'm starting with Dickens' A CHRISTMAS CAROL, then will try to find the works of Jean Shepherd that inspired A CHRISTMAS STORY. I think IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE was based on a short story, so I might try to track that down too.

I recently read THE ARENA MAN by Steve Englehart. Book 3 in his Max August series, and a good, fun read.

Star Trek: Losing the Peace and Star Trek: Singular Destiny. I am about to download to my Nook the Typhon Pact series. All are TNG stories.

I have paused in my reading of Joe R. Lansdale's "Hap Collins and Leonard Pine" mysteries to pick up Gene Luen Yang's BOXERS & SAINTS.

I'm currently reading THE GHOST BRIDE by Yangsze Choo; not very far into it, but it's off to a promising start.
I'm also dabbling in one of my Xmas presents, HOLLYWOOD CARTOONS: AMERICAN ANIMATION IN ITS GOLDEN AGE. For a book about such a visual medium, it's rather sparse on the pictures (although the flip-page animations on the page corners was a fun touch). I also find the focus a bit off kilter. Most of the book seems to focus up to the early 1940s, which seems curious as I would regard the pinnacle of the form to be the mid-40s to the mid-50s.
