WOW!

I decree today that any colorist who approaches a Mandrake piece shall be arrested!

I love that Trimpe of yours, Paul. Congrats!

And Ari's Mandrake of Spectre, Batman and Martian Manhunter doesn't hurt either...

I can imagine many of today's colorists looking at that piece and deciding
they could "improve" it by knocking out the blacks and adding "lens
flare" to the highlights.

The color/don't color discussion reminded me at MidOhioCon while Paul and I were lingering around Trimpe's booth he told us how he was baffled when he turned over a penciled commission to a fan who immediately wondered aloud, "I wonder who I can get to ink this?!?!"

I remember Trimpe saying that by inking the piece, it becomes something totally different than the pencil work, even if he inked it himself!

Ari, I saw the pieces that were bought for you at the con. Don't be coy, you know they are worth sharing.

Sergio Aragones is always fun to talk to and he is super quick when it comes to sketches. I gave him a reference and all he asked was, "are they friends or enemies?".

Remember a while back someone proudly posted a John Romita cover sketch
he'd had inked (and cleaned up) by Terry Austin. I scolded Terry for even
doing the job! Romita's pencils are (a) gorgeous and (b) exceedingly rare.
Having something like that inked is like painting bling on the Mona Lisa.

Since the character theme today seems to be Star Sapphire. I thought I would share a piece that I bought from Kevin Nowlan, who did this for the Vs cards. This piece is of the Golden Age Star Sapphire, Flash and Green Lantern....Enjoy. Brian

Thanks, it was one of two VS card pieces that I was able to buy from him. The other one is the Solomon Grundy being chased by Alan Scott.
