The Claremont Reign, indeed.
The test, for me personally, about whether the X-Men are done right is how Cyclops is handled. The more he is like the Lee-Kirby version, the better the entire team -- even the "new" team (and I, like JB, can't think of anything but the originals as the real X-Men). What I see in JB's new pencil practice here is Cyclops as he should be.

Mind you, as I have said, in all seriousness, Chris took the book to the top of the top, once I was gone. I must have been holding him back.

twitch twitchA problem with having considered doing this as a "double-sized" issue is that I know the end of the story. Specifically, the last page. Specifically the last panel. And I now have an urge to draw that last panel, just for funzies. But where might that lead???

Me i was reading yours and Chris, the "new" x-men, and Lee / Kirby at the same time, i vaguely was aware of the Thomas/Adams/Steranko stuff, but mostly read it a few years later, when their turn came to be reprinted.
Of Lee Kirby, my favorites where probaly the Story with Namor, the one with Ka-Zar and the one with the Sentinels. I also reread a lot the story introducing Unus & the one with the Juggernaut.
I didn't guess Jason Wyngarde was Mastermind untill you told us. Of the X-Men my favorite was Jean in your run (your as the two of you), and Scott. Logan probably came in third. In the Lee / Kirby stories, it was Cyclops, Cyclops and then Charles and the others. Probably Charles in the second place and then all the others ex-equo.
So what Chris and you did with Jean was very much what made her my favorite. I think at the time Scott was ex-equo with her in my heart as favorite X-men. I miss this Cyclops. Happy to see him here.

Says the man that just had an "itch" to scratch 20 pages later.

JK Rowling said something similar, in so far as she knew how the series (Harry Potter) would end. As such she wrote the ending first. So that it was inescapable.

Thank you very much, JB! I love it that "the ride" ended on my birthday (July 28). I kind of feel like it was a present of sorts :-)

And now, the George Lucas part of my brain starts squirming. I've not previously had a whole issue sitting in the drawer, "finished". Usually I send stuff off the moment it's done, so I don't have the urge to twiddle and tweak endlessly. But this job has nowhere to go!! ***************** IMO, the issue may be considered as unfinished! Missing words in some pages and specially, it has no cover!

I would say if you have an urge to just follow it and I say this in the most unselfish way I can.
I've learned in the last year that life is way too short to not enjoy yourself as much as possible...as long as you're not hurting yourself or anyone else in the process of course.

"one surprise is experiencing the same 'post partems' I used to feel every time I finished an issue."________________
I know exactly what you mean! I feel the same way whenever I'm deeply absorbed in some creative project (whether it's making a video game, drawing, writing a story, making a movie) and then it's over. It's kind of a come down from the high...
