Boom! And more Boom! That planet looks EPIC, just showing part of it, but covering the full length of the page -- it conveys a suitable sense of vastness.

And then there's the storytelling. These pages bristle with energy, with development. It reminds me of what I used to love about comics, about how you could get a ripping and satisfactory tale crammed within 21 pages.... And that satisfaction comes with a kind of paradox of compelling the reader to want more.

Decompression just leaves me feeling short changed and that doesn't make me want more, because it's just not worth it.

Phenomenal to see this quality of work that is so interesting to read before we've even got the words!

Beautiful pencils!  Was curious what the initials around the planet mean... they look like BWS but all I can think of is Barry Windsor Smith?

A little experiment. Font is too large, I think. Also won't let me do BOLD words.

I really love the drawing of Gladiator’s face in the penultimate panel. The way the shadow covers the side of his face and the darkness of the pencil lines. Just perfect.

(Isn’t his name “Kallark” though?)

JB: Manta was my character, and Chris f**ked her up. I decided to take this opportunity to ease my pain by killing her—poignantly.

I haven’t heard of this. What was your intention for the character?

I intended Manta to be able to sense disturbances in light in much the same way her namesake senses distubances in water. In other words, something that actually hadn’t been done before.

Chris wrote her as having infrared vision—which had the double whammy of making it look as if I’d drawn the scene incorrectly, since she spots Nightcrawler with her back toward him.
