Bob Layton is of course an artist in his own right, however his posing is stiff, and his storytelling doesn't come near JRjr's. That's why the team worked way back then, JRjr always flows from one panel/page to the next, and Bob's Iron Man is ... well it's Iron Man! However Bob alone is a bit stiffer in his figures.
Before anyone jumps all over me, I love Bob Layton's art, he's one of the best in my opinion, but the two of them together made a superior Iron Man, also in my opinion.

To me, Layton's strong points are tech and costume\armor designs.

The first Hulk run and this Eternals work looks rushed and lacks his usual polish in my view

SER: Sorry but I hate, hate, hate when people say that art looks "rushed." You cannot tell how long someone spent on the work based solely on the finished product. Besides, I have "rushed" to meet a deadline and the result was something that I was quite pleased with -- even in hindsight. While I've labored over a piece for weeks, fiddling with it until the end, and it was still terrible.
I would prefer personally if people just said that the finished product didn't suit them but saying it's "rushed" implies something that can't be proven.

Hey, it is all opinion. They said it looked rushed to them. Doesn't need to be proven. They just opine that the work doesn't seem up to the standards accustomed with the average brilliant JR JR.
but, on the other hand, I think everything by the Kubert who does Action Comics looks rushed, yet it takes forever to come out, so I guess I just don't like his style.

Especially since they don't see the pencils--just what the inker did to
them. For all they know, it was JRjr's masterpiece and a hack inker f$%ked it
up.

I think there should be a law that only Klaus Janson should ink JRJr. They are the perfect combo for each other.

Brian, I'm pretty sure Williamson inked Man Without Fear as well. I think there are plenty of talented guys, such as Williamson and Dan Green, that do well inking Romita Jr. I just think the stuff with Klaus is the best.

Yes it is my opinion that Romita's latest stuff looks rushed and not as detailed as his earlier work. The inking is not doing his work any favors either. I think Layton is the best inker to have worked with Romita, but again in my opinion, your's may differ. I grew up on Romita's Iron Man and Spider-Man, and hold him in high regard as one of the best comic artists of all time. His recent work has me puzzled as it seems crude in comparison to his earlier work, with a blocky look to it that is unlike his earlier art. John Buscema, my all time favorite Marvel artist had a similar thing happen to his last few titles. It too looked rushed and didn't have the level of detail I expected from him. Perhaps his pencils needed better inking over them?

Brett, I loved John Buscema but I don't know what you are talking about. I never thought his latest work looked rushed or that it had less detail than before.
As for Romita Jr, while I believe he is one of the best ever, I think his peak was Daredevil. After that, I think there has been some decline. His Spider-Man started looking more like a stick figure than an actual person as he progressed in his ASM run.
His stick figures are 1000 better than any other artist's best effort, but that is beside the point.
