I like his idea from a "let's be assholes to get their attention" standpoint.

You mean, put in deliberately false stuff?
Lie on his behalf?
I don't think JB would want that.

I don't like the idea, but I do admit, that sometimes if you want to get
loopholes or problems in the system noticed, you abuse them.

Think of it as "good gossip". The gossip they seem to post is only negative to JB. Why not post flattering gossip as well, to at least illustrate how silly it is to post any of it?

Well, let's ask him.
JB, do you want us to lie on your behalf? Do you want us to vandalize
Wikipedia articles and claim that you discovered the cure for multiple
sclerosis, that you saved nine children from a house fire, that you
have three Oscars, four Emmys, two turtle doves, and a Nobel Peace
Prize in a pear tree?
Do you want us to be assholes for you?
edit - oh, just reasonable stuff? Okay, that's different.

That is one way of looking at it.. the other way is to look at it as balanced journalism. Why should only negative/unflattering inaccuracies be posted? Is negativity more news worthy?

From what little Wikipedia I've used...
The problem with Wikipedia is that they do not reference 'facts' in
thier entries. They do not indicate where 'in print' you can
verify their 'facts' and because that is the case, it is about on par
with the Weekly World News. Its just an overblown rumor mill /
blog.

Either way, it would still be consciously, deliberately lying, and it
makes me uncomfortable. All JB tried to do was delete all the
information instead of making up bullshit to replace it; there's a big
difference between omission and commission.
Putting in positive stuff to balance the negative stuff, that's one
thing. Putting in deliberate lies, it'd just make JB look worse.

I think you and I may have very different opinions about what a "free country" is Joe. Wikipedia states what it is, quite obviously. For JB to correct it, then have no one else edit it after he is done, would be against the entire concept of it's creation.***** The First Amendment was not created to protect lies or rumor.

Dear Mr. Byrne,
I was the Wikipedia administrator who temporarily locked the article to prevent anyone - not just you - from editing it. Removing 95% of the article, including such harmless items as pictures of your comic book covers, a bibliography, categories, and links to places like this forum, was vandalism. At no time did you tell anyone what you were doing by mentioning it on the article's talk page or in the edit summary and neither did you respond to the messages left for you on Wikipedia by a number of different editors. Look at it from our perspective: what were we supposed to think about what was happening?
You and posters here may think little of our project, and that's fine. There are certainly a number of valid criticisms that can be leveled at us. While certain articles on popular entertainment may be cluttered with fan rumors and the like, I'd say most of the editors on Wikipedia are committed to making the encyclopedia as fair and accurate as possible.
If you want, you can go to the top and talk to Mr. Wales (or Jimbo, as we affectionately call him) and deal with it that way. I believe Harlan Ellison did much the same thing, and I don't think anything really came of it. Or you and the posters here can tell us what specific problems the article has and we can work together to correct them so that everyone benefits.
Gamaliel

Did one of my childhood idols just imply he thinks I'm an idiot? haha
Happy Birthday to me! It really is my birthday, and that's a gift that will keep on giving. ;)
