Now convicted felon, Trump is kidnapping children of the United States,
citizen children who have cancer, and sending them out of the country.

Mark, the mothers wanted the children with them. We know this because ICE have said so. No need for any court to determine the legality of any of this; you can just trust ICE...

[And, yes, I am being sarcastic, if there is any doubt. It is chilling how these deportations are being conducted.]

Humpty Trumpty now wants to eliminate income tax, deriving all government income from tariffs.

Couple of problems come immediately to mind. As it currently stands the amount the Feds raise from income tax (about $3 trillion) is roughly equal to the value of imports. So tariffs would have to be 100% or more. This would greatly raise prices for consumers, who would certainly reduce their spending.

Second, since Trumf’s Big Idea is that tariffs will compel consumers to Buy American, the amount of imports would drop, and with it the amount collected from tariffs.

I think Trump's approach to tariffs is something like: tariffs are good, therefore he wants tariffs. All reasons justifying it are afterthoughts and seem to change on a weekly, sometimes daily, basis.

Edited to add: which is to say, his conclusion that tariffs are good is not a conclusion at all, it's a starting point that seems to have been plucked out of the air and exists independently of any logical reasoning or evidence.

Trump's idea is more or less a re-do of Ron Paul's when he ran for President. Which is why I thought Ron Paul and his supporters were all idiots.

It is also hard to "Buy American" when we import more than we export and certain goods we import are imported because we don't make them here.

Tariffs destroy American credibility around the world. Tariffs destroy decades of trade negotiations, understandings, relationships-- in a word, trust.

When irrational Tariffs are called for by a man who has no rational reason to ask for them, one should be suspicious: maybe he doesn't believe they will actually do good. Maybe he wants them to do harm.

Who benefits from the harm they do?

China and Russia.

Has Trump ever wanted to do anything to help these horrible autocratic countries before?

There is nothing inconsistent about the idea that Trump is doing tariffs because of the damage they do.

Putin ravaged his country and sutured his ass to the throne of Russia's broken government. It's hard to imagine that he's never suggested Trumps should try doing the same thing in the US.

Unless locally made wooden toy horses become popular with kids all of a sudden, the tariffs have a solid chance of ruining Christmas. Between the de minimis exemption going away ($800 or less declared value pays no duty), erratic rapidly-changing tariff policies, and DOGE firing all of the temp workers who had to help manage all this, it might not be economical or even practical to ship a lot of stuff from China or Taiwan.

Trump is going to get his ass handed to him by Carney. That man is not
afraid to speak his mind and knows more about economics in his little finger
than Trump has ever known about everything combined.
Will be interesting to watch.

Big U.S. business insiders are asking their counterparts in Canada and China if the governments are indeed "in talks" with Trump.

The answer is no.

Trump is "negotiating" with himself and losing.

But still he persists. And the "mystery" continues-- why would this man continue pursuing a policy which only benefits our enemies? If only we could guess!
