Agreed.
That first panel showing Xavier’s head as Colossus moves forward is especially well done.

There has been some discussion in this thread and some others regarding the original art and writing as intended in the Fantastic Four issue with the return of Jean Grey. I cannot help wondering if the original artwork and dialogue still exists anywhere(except in the memory of its creator). I join in the wish that it might see publication someday in its original form.
On a separate tangent, if Big Bad Byrne really existed, would he sound anything like Namor? Namor says "Next time call someone else." I wonder if JB pretends to be Big Bad Byrne when creating dialogue for Namor. Or it may be that the characters write themselves. This is such great dialogue and expresses a lot about Namor's personality in just 5 words.

Here is a blog that posted the original Fantastic Four 286 pages beside the Guice/Claremont replacement pages.
Unpublished Fantastic Four 286
Elsewhen, perhaps unsurprisingly, works far better than either version for me.

Jumping around in the issue currently on the board, I am inking the last page today, and it occurs to me that elephantine bartender must of course be PINK!

Had a D’oh! moment just now. Inking the page where Storm introduces Kitty to Jean, after the latter has identified the former as a “tween”.Misuse of the word, it seems. I had thought it referred to the middle teens, but apparently it’s descriptive of kids before they become teenagers, 8 to 12 year olds. Since Jean is unlikely to think Kitty is that young, a touch of rewrite will be needed. Too bad. I thought it was a cute line.

People’s ages are mis-read all the time upon meeting them….Kitty being a ‘normal’ (not an Image era busty super model) 16 year old would lead one to think she could be younger.

Started inking page 13 (if I counted right). The first panel, the hangar, took two hours all by itself!

JB, is that because of how tight the pencils are? If you had done rougher pencils to start, would the inking be equally time consuming as you still have to put in the detail?
