I did end up buying the large-scale USS Enterprise miniature (but did that at my LCS the day before heading to the con):+++++++++
From what I've seen, it looks like the large Enterprise is about the same size (about 11" long) as the Polar Lights 1/1000 model kit. It looks to be less accurate, but the upside is that it's pre finished, and has die-cast metal construction.
While I've not gotten into the Eaglemoss TREK ships, myself, I do like checking out video and still-image reviews of the various releases. Accuracy issues with a lot of them, but they still look like cool display pieces at pretty reasonable prices.
Also, Sam's photo makes me once again hanker for a Captain America shield replica, but it seems that most of the current licensed replicas feature the extra detailing of the movie version and/or the red, SILVER, and blue color scheme. Me, I'd prefer something a little more comic-accurate. Same with Thor's hammer.
A slight tangent--I was recently speaking with a youthful (19!) coworker, who expressed interest in getting into comics (since she loves the movies), but, like most newbies, has no idea where to start. She totally gets my ranting about fidelity to the source material and my complaints about where the comic industry has gone, and seems like a perfect person to convert to the Nerd Side. She mentioned that she loves Captain America, so, as one of the random acts of kindness that I often like to perform, I got her Marvel Masterworks: THE AVENGERS vol. 1, Marvel Masterworks: CAPTAIN AMERICA VOL. 1, and CAPTAIN AMERICA: WAR AND REMEMBERANCE.
She was ridiculously excited to receive these books, and said it felt like going to Disney World. I couldn't stop smiling as I drove home.
Pssss--Don't tell, but I also got her the first SPIDER-MAN and FANTASTIC FOUR Epic Collections, as well as THE INCREDIBLE HULK Masterworks vol. 1, since her birthday is next month. Might as well provide a reasonably broad-based gateway drug, y'know?
This is pretty much my way of both paying forward the good luck/karma that got me a signed copy of I AM NOT SPOCK for free, as well as spreading my love of comics of the next generation. Good times!
