Sharp looking car, JB!  I love the pic next to the Lincoln Futura.  I've heard you tell of how this was your Batmobile before the TV show, which is pretty wild.  You had an instinct superheros long before you were creating comic books.

I'm kind of surprised that there was ever even a Futura toy
made, given that Ford only produced 1 concept car of it.

But a very POPULAR concept car, Bob. It was even a movie star!

Debbie Reynolds and Glenn Ford in a promo pic for "It Started with a Kiss", just ONE of the Futura's screen appearances, pre-Batmobile.

Just for funzies, here's the entire Byrne Batcar collection*, including a couple of Futuras.

That's the Eaglemoss version in the plastic case at the back. Left to right in front of that is the 1:12 scale version, most recently acquired, an RC version from Mattel in slightly larger than 1:18 scale, the 1:18 Hot Wheels version, and, of course, the ALP tin Futura. In the front row, the Hallmark Xmas ornament from a few years back, and a Johnny Rocket Futura.

What obsession?

________

* Not including the one in the garage! (Also not included, I have a couple of versions of the We-Don't-Have-the-License comicbook version DC did in the Sixties, one from Hallmark in powder blue, and one in roughly 1:24 scale in black.)

JB:  "Not including the one in the garage!"

I hope you get that frame on a car one day, JB - that would make for some great grocery store runs!

These pics are from the Burbank Auto Show this past summer.  I didn't know it was happening - I just went to San Fernando Road to get a Fuddruckers burger and ran into this:

Regarding the orange piping on the Batmobile, I keep reading two different things: that Barris repainted the car after the show, and that the piping is the original Cerise red, which has faded into an orange because the flourescent paint was extra sensitive to UV light. Does anyone know which account is accurate?

Nice Batmobile collection JB. I love people who are really into what they're into. Great photo too, btw.

Saturday I went looking for that new Batmobile. The closest TRU is about 25 minutes from me, so before I made the drive I called ahead and they said they had 4 of them on the floor. So, I hurried over there, and I found 3 of the Batman and Robin 2-packs, but zero Batmobile's on the shelf. I asked about it, and they said they were still showing 4 in stock. However, as it turns out they had all sold out earlier that morning and it just hadn't registered yet. I ended up buying the B&R 2-pack so that the trip wasn't a total waste of time. So, I'm still on the hunt for that damn car.

Thanks Mark, but I managed to pick one up last night at TRU. Called ahead and they had one left in stock and saved it for me.
