Sorry, but the Rankin-Bass inspired Kong from KING KONG ESCAPES would be more desirable to me than that PJ one (especially if it meant getting the Mecha-Kong as well)

Lego sets

***

Both of my nephews wanted (shockingly expensive!) Lego sets for Xmas.  I must admit that the very concept of Lego sets seems odd to me, not to mention antithetical to what I thought Legos were about.  Now they seem to just be model kits, with cheat parts.

Depends how it's done, really - there was something great about the Lego kits which contained enough of the generic bricks to make a specific thingamajig out of them (i.e., whatever was on the front of the box and in the instructions - a boat/plane/racing car/etc.), but alternatively, you had enough freedom to make anything you wanted out of them.

As cool as it is to have licensed properties rendered in the 'Lego' style, when a box contains only enough parts to build the one specific thing, or worse, lots of specially molded parts (as opposed to the 'classic' look, whereby the trick was to approximate all those shapes using the squared-off bricks), I agree with your 'model kit' assessment.

The Peter Jackson Kong would make a good Gorilla Grodd since he's so much more posable than anything DC Direct has put out. 70 bucks is a little steep for that kind of purpose though.

I picked up Batman and Superman keychains at the LEGO store.

DC's MPD continues unabated.

This is not how I see Doctor Doom, but I figured he may be of interest to some of you. More info about this item will be posted here:

According to the Dr. Doom preview image at Sideshow, there is an
option of the original mask. If they went ahead with it, I think it would
be as close to JB's version as I've seen in a three dimensional piece.

I gotta say, I prefer the hand-riveted look. The smooth, curved lines soften what is ideally a hard, chiseled, f***in' EVIL countenance.

The version above looks more like. . .

...than any version of Doom with which I am familiar!

If they fix the mask, that could end up being something great. As of right now I think this is the best Doom statue.

Agreed. First I've bought, anyway, aside from the wee Eaglemoss version.
