Excellent all-round, but especially the hands and feet, so key to the Beast's appearance.

Now is that a Venom body and an Atom head?  Do you just sand down the nails and such?

yes and yes.  my original plan was to do a blue Beast, but after mulling it over I decided I associated the blue Beast with the Avengers more than the X-Men, and I wanted him with the X-Men.

As much as the thought of buying a Venom figure pains me...

I felt the same way...can't stand the character!  I had him as a placeholder on my X-Men shelf for the longest time.  I don't miss him.

I'm tempted to tackle Cyclops next and get him out of the scuba suit.  A proper Iron Man would be nice, too!

Ryan...what are your plans for Crystal?

Nice Brad, I like the mix and match different era costumes, I think you got everyone's best look. I've been thinking about getting the originals in their "best looking" (even if they've never been in a comic together that way) outfits myself and you've given me a nice preview, thanks. Now you just need an Adams' Havok to go with Polaris.

Can you get those figurines off the pedestals?   How easy is it to cut those head and hands and such off? What glue do you use to re-attach?  Very cool custom jobs.

I think most feet are held in the bast by one peg each. I haven't done much removal or rebasing. The figures are just lead, so most limbs and heads are fairly easy to remove, either by Xacto knife or saw. I use Krazy glue to put things back together again.

Xacto saw blades that fit in the large, red handles. They have very fine teeth that are perfect on the figures.

Krazy Glue with brush for very easy application.

What about filler?  Do you use lead or some other substance?  Looking at that Beast makes me think he'd look great with a different pose, but not sure how much leeway you have with the chopping and such.

OK, so some of my main tools, outside of paint and brushes.

For joining the pieces together and filling seams, I use Games Workshop Green Stuff, also sold as Kneadatite or similar products. It's a two-part epoxy clay that dries fairly fast after combined.

Shaping tools to work the clay.

For joints that need a little help staying together, I use a jeweler's drill (basically a small drill bit holder that fits in your hand). Bore a hole in both pieces where they join and cut a piece of wire (I use paperclips) and glue it in. The added surface area for the glue to hold really strengthens the bond.

Here it is in pieces. They screw together and hold the bit at the end.

I occasionally use a Dremel with metal working bits to remove things like hair that's molded onto the body.

Various sandpapers (fine grit, like 400-800 or so) and sanding sponges.

Assorted small needle files with different shapes; round, square, etc.

Dull Cote spray from Testors for when it's all done. A couple of coats are a must.

The most chopping and repositioning I've done still had a few breakages even after pinning the joints and using green stuff where I could. Darn skinny legs!

It went from this:

to this:

Hm. Midtown no longer seems to have Venom, so I guess I will have to bide a wee before I can try my own Beastly conversion.
