ITEM: In DoFP, it was very clearly established that the sentinels had taken over North America - NOT the world. So while I understand that Doom and T'Challa could be included, they might have also been in their home countries, helping to coordinate the attack against the USA.

But in further iterations, the sentinels had taken over the world. Those fighting back were a resistance force, not opposing nations. Could a team be formed of non-American and Canadian* heroes to try to take on the sentinels?

*Well, and Mexican heroes - but I don't think I know of any.

ITEM: I have found that Mr. Byrne's writing does great work on intensity and action - but the light moments seem a bit lacking. Not fun moments; they're there. But (likely intentionally), the en passant humorous moments seem somewhat rare. (This was not something I noticed in ST:TNV by the way. Those books were so good, I heard the characters in my head, and had I not known better, I'd have sworn I was reading stories from season 4.)

ITEM: This may be a little weird, but I find that almost all characters in Mr. Byrne's stories are superlatives. There are never any villains who are really good but not great, or heroes who simply fail at something - which will occur on occasion, I think. I'm thinking mostly of Fantastic Four and X-Men, but it seemed to occur in Superman and Wonder Woman too. Obviously, it didn't happen all the time; but it seemed that an occasional faux pas might have showed up.

ITEM: Homages to previous stories, with respect to the original creators, seem to abound in Mr. Byrne's stories. Off the top of my head, I think of the Infant Terrible, Wonder Woman's aerodrome (sic?) that formed her invisible jet, Mesmero, Diablo, etc. There IS a history; nothing happens in a historical vacuum. I always love those callbacks.

ITEM: The wry smile. Not a full blown grin or laugh, but that sort of half-twerking of the mouth. Always a delight to see that.

So, some good and not so good tropes from Mr. Byrne.

And now the Tokens are ringing in my head, and will be all day.  Thanks JB.

I have always held a fascination with the Blue Area since I first read of it in 137.  There is something about it in your art that makes it, even though in ruin, comforting.  That may not make sense, but that is the feeling I get.  Perhaps it is the obvious distance from the Earth and all that goes on there everyday.

The Blue Area blue—er—blew my mind when I first read FF 13. It was introduced so casually, as if it was something everyone already knew about. (Which I assumed they did. That night when the Moon rose, I went into the back yard to look for it. When I couldn’t see it I guessed I was maybe too far north. Hey! An astronomer I wasn’t.)

Then it also turned out to be the home of the Watcher. Universe building happening right before my eyes! And in an issue inked by Ditko!

I actually had a fleeting moment where I thought Barry
Windsor-Smith signed the page.

Wow. I need coffee.
