Comics were everywhere, and they sold better. Duh!
JB & Erik Larsen-
Aside from an unwillingness to do so, is it logistically and economically possible for Marvel, DC and others to once again place their comics in convenience stores, corner groceries, pharmacies, etc? Share with us a thumb-nail sketch of what needs to happen to make that a reality.

Which means no book sold over 100,000, which is, ya know, not good.

I have no reference for what is and what isn't good in this market. That's why I asked JT. And thanks for replying! :-)

Ahhh, my bad, that probably came off as snide.
Usually at least a few of the top 5 books break the 100,000 (or sometimes 200,000) barrier. As JB has said, 100,000 used to be the cancellation point way back in the day. For today's market though, the top book being 90,000 is still pretty harsh.

I'm sure the Batman fiasco helped.

JT,
No it didn't. My "which means?" could have been interpreted that way too.
So, what needs to happen to get books to break the 100K barrier consistently? And can they do so in today's market where comics are competing with electronic entertainment media (movies, games, CDs, DVDs)? Are comics now a permanent and irreversible fixture as a niche market? Or can we really go back to buying FF/JLA at 7-11, etc.?

I'm sure raising prices during a recession isn't the
smartest business move either.
So how does X-men Forever selling out work as a number?
That would have to be at least 100,000 right?

I remember when I first started buying comics as a kid, from Franklin Pharmacy in Glatonbury Connecticut. They certainly were easier to get back then.
But they are still everywhere, albeit in a smaller selection. Barnes and Noble and Borders sell comics in the magazine section, and so do most grocery stores. So they're still out there. Sure, sales are down, but aren't sales for all books down?

I have not seen a grocery store or a convinience store sell a comic book for years. Thats how most rural people, including me, had access to comic books.
