Glenn, those figures are for the North American market only - there are significant quantities sold in Europe, Australia, Canada etc. And the Marvel titles you can see below 10k are restocks or variants. The numbers don't include subscriptions, and more and more people are buying their comics via trades now. But they're not exactly stunning sales figures, granted.
Stephen, not to go off-topic or anything, but why single out Joe Q for blame regarding what you consider to be low sales? Along with Bill Jemas, Joe Q helped to steer Marvel away from bankruptcy into a profitable and successful company. Like him or hate him, he's done a lot of good for Marvel. Moving him "aside" doesn't automatically equate to a big sales boost for Marvel. The biggest bug-bear right now seems to be the $3.99 price point, and that's going to happen regardless of who is in charge. I know he gets a lot of flack around here, possibly because of the XMHY situation, but he's a good guy. XMHY should never have been axed, but you could say the same for any number of much-lamented former Marvel books.

Mike, I'm seeing Savage Dragon at #220 on that chart, selling 6,051. Below that you've got two DC books, Young Liars and Super Friends, which as I understand it (and I could very well be wrong here) are aimed at younger kids, in much the same way as Marvel's Marvel Adventures line is. These books get a lot of their sales from subscriptions and non-Diamond outlets, and as such their Diamond numbers (which this list is based upon) are relatively poor, as Diamond only supply speciality comic stores. Books you see below Savage Dragon - X-Force, Wolverine, Green Lantern - are either reorders or variant cover editions, hence their lower order figure. The standard edition of said books will have appeared much higher up in the chart.

It makes me curious as to what It'll take for Joe Q. and Dan D. to be moved aside.
You don't run the gravediggers out of the graveyard, do you?

Simon thanks for the answer. I've never read Young Liars or Super Friends but I'd assume they are geared towards kids. I think what I am not understanding, is why a book is not considered mainstream because it's aimed at kids.
I've never given it much thought before. To me if there is a Marvel or DC logo, that's mainstream.

Young Liars is most definitely not aimed at kids.

I just looked up Young Liars, whoops. There's what happens when I assume it's geared towards kids because it has "Young" in the title. Looks interesting and I've enjoyed the little David Lapham I have seen before so I may have to try it out sometime.

S'funny ... all these efforts at looking for ways to prove
EL wrong.
He must be the most abused John Byrne fan around ... most
vehemently by other John Byrne fans, to boot!
Talk about an absurd world!

I can only imagine the internet patting EL on the back for sticking it out in the face of overwhelming flying monkey odds.
"Argghhh! Die f*cking flying monkey bastards! Diiiiieeee!"

You are f*cked.
I said some fans might get it into their fools heads to
think that way.
Fools basically.
Not me. Show me the quote that says otherwise -- in
actual words, not your impressions of my words -- or
zip it about my comments.
I said that my perception of JB at the time was that he
didn't need the spotlight and might have been trying to
build the books with lesser recognition into books with
high recognition -- which he did, by the way (echoes of
Jack Kirby which is a compliment which you obviously
missed).
You obviously also missed my comparison with Frank Miller
who took a Daredevil about to be cancelled to titanic
heights. Also a compliment which you missed. What? Too
subtle for you?
JB did a great job She-Hulk and Namor -- nobody runs
second. Basically, JB's forte is that he respects the
characters and doesn't try to fashionably curry favor
with the fans by dissing the characters -- kind of like
that jerkward Bendis-wassisname.
So have the decency to stick to facts and not put words
into my mouth.
I defend JB and EL alike. I'm a great fan of those these
guys. If you actually put the effort into getting to know
BOTH of them, you might find that EL is a great defender
of the same basic values in classic good comics as JB.
They just take different paths and have different
personal styles of personal expression -- both in their
work and in their posts.
And, quite frankly, I wish JB would just go ahead and
finish his Next Men run ... even if he only makes 15$ a
copy. I know this would be charity on his part but, I
have a feeling that Next Men going to turn out to be one
of those great, tragically untold stories.
Lastly, I recognized JB's talent from his work on 1999
which I bought off the stands -- not in the bins x years
later. I was elated when the same artist turned up on
Iron Fist and later in X-Men.
I was thrilled when he did FF.
I had to sit down and take a deep breath when I learned
about MOS.
I'm a confirmed JB fan.
I'm also a confirmed EL fan.
Who the hell are you to suggest that I have to choose
between these two creators?

They have some points of commonality. But one guy talks the talk, the other does the walk.
