I must say,... I have enjoyed this debate quite a bit.
Everytime I read a comment from EL, I am like, "well that makes a lot of sense, I agree". But then I would read a comment from JB or someone who disagrees with EL and I would then be like,.."well dang,.that is true too"
but I must say the following comment by Erik Larsen is the most impressive, civil, professional, respectful, mature, and intelligent response I have ever read in a debate
QUOTE:
I come here because I am a fan of John Byrne's work. I've bought numerous pages of his original art and nearly every comic book he's ever drawn, starting with the second appearance of Rog 2000 in the back of E-Man. I've followed his career for roughly 35 of my 46 years.
That doesn't mean we agree on everything.
I didn't sign up to argue. I realize that this is John's place and I do my best to be courteous and respectful. You'll find posts from me in quite a few threads discussing comics and John's work.
When somebody questions me or asks about things my company has done--I tell them. When somebody accuses me of something, I make an effort to set the record straight or at least explain how I see things. |

Kudos EL for not taking the easy route and simply attacking JB. That you could express your love for his work given the level of disagreement and (prehaps dislike) is very impressive indeed. Come on JB the guy can't be all that bad no?? can't we all just get along? lol
I have been a real fan of john Byrne for most of my comic reading life. I do enjoy your artwork but never got to be the die hard fan that I became for JB. (But I've loved your stuff)
there is one thing I do not understand in all this debate, what is the reason for the dislike of the Image guys? Is it that the veteran Marvel creators felt betrayed?
