Oh, dang, and I just went and changed that line to something that I'm sure
I'm going to feel bad about having said when I read it again tomorrow,
Jason...

Oh, what the heck. I'll put it back in, and leave my snide jab, too.
'Cause that's just the kind of guy I am. Even though I'm going to feel bad
about the snide later.

Do you think he thought it was sweet of you to try to step in and protect
him?

Ouch.......

I am here as a fan of both Erik Larsen and John Byrne, and am not
intending on doing any sucking up on either side. I don't understand why
you find it fitting to patronize me, I made that comment because I feel
compelled to say something when anybody becomes discourteous. (You
must realize from experience how quickly these threads, or any on the
internet for that matter, can degenerate into flame wars). I would have
said the same thing had you directed your post at Byrne, or any other
comics professional.

You should have stopped at your previous response to my post, where
you came across as polite and reasonable.

I must say,... I have enjoyed this debate quite a bit.

Everytime I read a comment from EL, I am like, "well that makes a lot of sense, I agree".  But then I would read a comment from JB or someone who disagrees with EL and I would then be like,.."well dang,.that is true too"

but I must say the following comment by Erik Larsen is the most impressive, civil, professional, respectful, mature, and intelligent response I have ever read in a debate

 QUOTE:
I come here because I am a fan of John Byrne's work. I've bought
numerous pages of his original art and nearly every comic book he's ever
drawn, starting with the second appearance of Rog 2000 in the back of
E-Man. I've followed his career for roughly 35 of my 46 years.

That doesn't mean we agree on everything.

I didn't sign up to argue. I realize that this is John's place and I do my best
to be courteous and respectful. You'll find posts from me in quite a few
threads discussing comics and John's work.

When somebody questions me or asks about things my company has
done--I tell them. When somebody accuses me of something, I make an
effort to set the record straight or at least explain how I see things.

Kudos EL for not taking the easy route and simply attacking JB.  That you could express your love for his work given the level of disagreement and (prehaps dislike) is very impressive indeed.  Come on JB the guy can't be all that bad no?? can't we all just get along? lol

I have been a real fan of john Byrne for most of my comic reading life.  I do enjoy your artwork but never got to be the die hard fan that I became for JB. (But I've loved your stuff)

there is one thing I do not understand in all this debate,  what is the reason for the dislike of the Image guys? Is it that the veteran Marvel creators felt betrayed?

sorry JB, but I gotta say, those pencils looks as impressive and as beautiful as anything I've ever seen.

Man I remember at one point you were doing like 4 titles and covers as well. when you took over  Superman for DC, I am wrong? what is the most titles you've done at a given time?

I remember thinking back then that you were the only artist to work at a Kirbyesq pace (and frankly quality)

All things considered, this has turned into a very strange thread. Since there is currently a thread devote to discussing how unfair and stupid "Bad Byrne" stories are, it's a bit disheartening to see so many "Bad Imagine/Erik Larsen" stories and comments being posted here, almost all of which are being shot down as quickly and effectively as the "Bad Byrne" stories are in that other thread.

For the past four decades all JB has been doing is creating good comics for people to read.

For about a decade Erik Larsen and his compatriots were the equivalent of today's Wall Street Bankers, living high on the hog by exploiting the weaknesses of the market, ultimately bringing the industry crashing down.

And some of you actually think an equivalence can be made between the two men? Come on.
