I love that movie, Bill. There are a number of WW2 movies that "feel" the same as Kelly's Heroes. I am not a fan of glorifying war, but Force 10, Kelly's Heroes, Dirty Dozen, etc. all had a feel about them that sucked me and my brother in whenever they were on T.V.
I love the conversion kit. Thanks for the link.

^ Thanks Eric! I really enjoyed KELLY'S HEROES as well (need to pick up the DVD one of these days). If they had a conversion kit in 1/48 scale, I'd pick one up.

KELLY'S HEROES is one of my Once-a-Year favorites. I may have to look into this conversion kit, see if it will work on the diecast Franklin Mint Sherman I have.Recently learned that the "Tiger" tanks seen in KELLY'S HEROES are, in fact, Russian T-34s, dressed to look like Tigers. Makes sense, I guess. Those Russian tanks would have been a lot easier to come by, filming in Yugoslavia. It's my understanding there are less than a dozen real Tigers left in the world. That would make for an interesting conversion, I suppose, if one could lay hands on a T-34 kit! (I learned this bit of trivia from a site listing "mistakes" in the movie. The use of the T-34 was there categorized as a "mistake". Somebody needs to explain to those people how movies get made!)

^ JB, I'm not sure that conversion kit would work for die-cast model, unless you're willing to take a hacksaw to that Franklin Mint Sherman of yours. Might be less stressful to get a commercially available 1/35 model kit (like the Tamiya release), if you don't mind me saying so...
Never knew that about the KELLY'S HEROES Tiger tanks. They looked close enough to the real thing for me (only other Tiger-replica I can recall was in SAVING PRIVATE RYAN)
Then again, I didn't have any problems with the use of M47 Pattons (!) as King Tigers and M24 Chaffees as Shermans in THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE movie either. Heck, I was enjoying Robert Shaw's performance as Col. Hessler to quibble about it too much.

My friend Gary Cody, who among other things is something of a WW2 buff, tells of watching a German made film about the Battle of Britain, and having a small alarm go off in his head, puzzling him for a moment until he realized the "Spitfires" were actually Messerschmitts painted in RAF colors!

The Marvel World pictures above prompted me to seek out a toy I recall having when I was a little kid. I've been trying to figure out what it was for a while now, and I finally found references to it.
Did anyone else here have one of these? It let you create a spider web line between two objects, and then you could hang tiny plastic figures of Spider-Man and Green Goblin (and from the picture, Mary Jane, although I don't remember having her) on the web.

One of my uncles must have owned this because it was in the game pile at my grandmother's house when I was little:

It appears the UK got a slightly different version:

I know that a few people expressed interest in the Might Muggs Avengers exclusive that was on sale at SDCC this past weekend. Well it seems that Hasbro had quite a few left over and they are currently for sale at http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/exclusives if you want to pick one up instead of paying top dollar through ebay. And they still have the Spider-Man with removable mask as well.

I wish I had better pictures. But, here are two shots of some of my displayed figures.

Very nice set-up, Steve! How sturdy are those glass shelves? I'd be paranoid one would start to crack under the weight... But then, I'm also paranoid my bookshelf is going to collapse any second, or someone's going to throw a rock through my window and damage the statues I have on my table in front of it.
I should stop owning nice things; it worries me too much that something will happen to them.

Steve, Do you have a reference or a link to an online shop for the glass display in your room?
Thanks.

Thanks, Brad. I worry too about things like that. I believe each 12 inch square can hold up to 75 lbs.
Pascal, sorry, I do not recall the name of the company. I know that they dealt with obviously display cases. But, they really cater to stores and businesses. The base has to be custom made by the company because of all of the different sizes that you can order. There are a bunch of display case companies online and they are all have about the same prices.
