If there is truth to the report that Musk thinks ‘high status males’ shouldrule, then everything I fear will come to pass.••• That’s what the Founding Fathers believed. That’s why they created the Nation as a Republic.

Yeah but they lived in a time when women were second class people. Do we really want to return to that kind of society? Well, return is maybe the wrong word - strengthen & increase might be better

Exactly. More than half the voters clearly wish it was the 18th Century.

A country that deliberately restricts the rights of any group - never mind literally half the population! - is guaranteed to fall behind. I don't understand the mindset here, and the more I gain insight into it the less I wanted to know. This need to control women is deeply sad, deeply perverse, and deeply, deeply wrong.

I posted this reflection in the Kamala thread. While it may not hold any deep insights, it is important enough to me, that I am voicing it in the correct thread.... thanks gang.
Trump is a very real threat to democracy.
History has shown that all empires fall and most don’t realize that it’s happening. No way to know when, but the factors playing out now could lead to it.
My significant other was 9 when her family fled Iran. The single reason that they were able to do so was because her father was a successful businessman and had contacts who warned him. That said, it was falling apart around them and they barely got out.
One day it was the shah and the next …. The ayatollah.
Americans have become careless and taken their eye off of the ball. Unless all of us hold our government accountable, this is experiment will fail. Maybe not in our lifetime, though anyone who believes that individual rights being stripped away to the point that 15 years down the road this country is unrecognizable, is either not paying attention or is kidding themselves.

Trump's cabinet is (as expected) shaping up to be a real Asshole Caravan, though most of the party regulars fall within the normal asshole range - Kristi Noem for Homeland Security and Marco Rubio for Secretary of State aren't people I particularly admire but I suspect they'll take the roles seriously (from their own POV) and both have enough experience that it won't be amateur hour, at least. Though Noem definitely falls more in the MTG mold of celebrity politician than someone really dedicated to responsible governance.
But the whole Q-adjacent people - RFK JR and Musk - being given reign over major pieces of our Federal infrastructure and workforce is only going to be bad news. I can't even imagine how bad their shit is going to be, and I can imagine a lot of bad.
As for Miller in charge of immigration, well, we knew that was coming and millions of people are going to suffer needlessly. America is going become synonymous with Trump's brand - cheap, tawdry, cruel, hollow, and morally bankrupt.

They just wish ol’ Trump would finally do away with Obamacare so the ACA will work like it’s supposed to.

Wanna hear a good one…… 😐
"I suspect I won't be running again, unless you say, 'he's so good, we've got to figure something else,' " Trump said while addressing the House Republican Conference in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The crowd chuckled in response to his remark. …….
Funny, right?

Woof, Matt Gaetz. I can't name a politician with a lower moral bar. His first official declaration will be (to quote el Presidente): "all children under the age of sixteen... are now sixteen."
He's loathed by all of his colleagues in the House, though we'll see how much that impacts the approval process. At this point I don't see any Republican members of Congress with anything like a spine.
