Playing with Marvel Time AND the Seven Year Rule. Mac Hudson was inspired by the early appearances of the Fantastic Four, and coincidentally Trudeau II came to power around seven years ago.
Flipping back to the beginning of this thread-- it's almost humorous to see the "before times" of a world that hadn't yet seen the revelations of Wolverine's origins. This issue was a hell of a ride.
So, seven year sliding timescale applied to today - how does it impact some of our favorite characters? Captain America comes out of the ice 13 years after 9/11, the FF are probably going to Mars, the Hulk / Daredevil / Spider-Man maybe have slightly different origins than "radiation is magic"....
I think "magic radiation" works fine as the on-going source of Hulk/Daredevil/Spider-Man's origins. There will always be new bombs and radioactive materials to account for their origins being "7 years ago"-ish.
I just wouldn't create any new characters who rely on that source for a super-powered origin.
