It'd be like trying to prosecute Galactus… Much easier to prosecute someone like... Reed Richards (!)Sorry JB not trying to pick open old wounds or anything

And the X-men still have Magneto to deal with.

All the pages are lovely but the last two particularly so! The Shi'ar's spaceships have always looked buglike to me and that last panel really drives home that "organic" perception. Stakes are definitely rising fast!

Mr. Byrne, a side question for you. How do you (or did you) feel about the original Shi'ar ships being based on Star Trek and the Enterprise?

“Based on” isn’t quite the right term. Dave was being cute when he “cast” Shatner as his Shi’ar captain. And, of course, his bridge only slightly resembled the one on the ol’ NCC-1701.

Less than mine does, certainly!! ;)

Just stumbled upon this:

So much history in those panels!

Of course, this was my first issue, and my first time drawing Wolverine for anything more than a guest appearance. The Fang costume was an annoyance, but I got rid of it as soon as I could. Still a long way to go to find the face!

Significantly, Shooter was Archie Goodwin's assistant at this time, and did not have any of the power--the whim of iron--that he would later possess. So he was not able to tell us we could not have Jahf punch Logan into orbit! (At the time, he might not even have cared. His relentless tweaking of existing lore was yet to come--and would manifest in having Chris rewrite Wolverine's encounter with the Hellfire Club goons so that he was "grazed" rather than being shot. Healing from a blast of machine gun fire Shooter deemed "unrealistic". Sure.)

Also take note of how much art Chris covers. What if....

Much better dialogue placement! The artwork for me should always take priority over the balloon (if possible).
Knowing your pencils better now, I see so much of Terry Austin  in that panel.

JB,

I hate to use the phrase, but it seems to fit.

This is your "Drop Da Mic" (Pen?) moment!!!

If you were to never work on an actual M***** comic again, Elsewhen is something your fans can look back on and say, "WOW!!!"

(...I wish there was a FF: Elsewhen in the future....)

Marvel has been publishing bad fan-fic for decades.

At this point, the "real" Marvel is a force which is conjured. It's something more
like that classic line of "I'm not sure what it is, but I know it when I see it."
