Not difficult at all, is it, Wallace? Like those Batman Christmas stories. They were not meant to mark the passage of yet another year in the life of the characters (and by the transitive property characters outside the "Batman Family" books.)Sadly, while it was something I understood perfectly as a child, it seems beyond the grasp of so many so called "adult" writers, editors, artists and fans--which ultimately contributes to the collapse of the art form they "love".

(At heart is a profoundly selfish attitude, perhaps unconscious, perhaps not, of "I'VE grown older, why shouldn't the characters?" The answer SHOULD be obvious: the characters have been around longer than us, and they should "outlive" us. Not rocket science.)

Why does the “need” of “character aging” only exist in comic books?
For example: In most animated shows, the characters don’t age. The Simpsons have been on television for 30 years — and they’re the same age as when the show started. I’ve never heard anyone being thrown by this.
In comic strips, characters rarely age — and again, I’ve never heard anyone say, “Why isn’t Charlie Brown getting older?”
I’ve never heard anyone ask why James Bond isn’t getting older... the same with Nancy Drew.
Why are comic books different?

I’ve never heard anyone being thrown by this. ••• TV GUIDE offered an “official protest” that Maggie was well past the age at which babies started to talk. The show runners hired Elizabeth Taylor to voice Maggie’s first word—and then promptly forgot about it. I think beyond the selfishness of those I cited in my previous post, there is also an intense degree of embarrassment in some fans. They know that “comics are for kids”, yet their own emotional immaturity does not allow them to relinquish their addiction, so they insist the comics change to accommodate them. These are, of course, separate and distinct from those older fans who are still able to appreciate the characters for what they were created to be—tho good luck finding the characters in that condition these days.
